 Made his stage debut as a spear carrier in Othello
 
 In 1950, he entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), but his time with RADA was interrupted when he entered National Service from 1953-54. He later re-joined the company in 1957 but left ten years later
 
 His older brother Eric, died in Egypt in 1944, while serving in the Scots Guard during World War II
 
 Made his film debut in 1968 with The Bofurs Gun
 
 In 1956 he made his London stage debut, TV debut, and also embarked on a European tour of Titus Andronicus
 
 After divorcing his first wife, in 1965 he entered into a relationship with Bee Gilbert a photographer. Together they had two children, Barney and Melissa. The relationship ended in 1976
 
 When he was 7 years old, he saw Les Miserables with Charles Laughton. He would later work with the actor on stage
 
 During a performance of The Ice Man Cometh in 1976, he had an attack of stage fright and left the theatre
 
 In 1981 he married his second wife Sophie Baker and they had one son, Harry
 
 He was made a Commander of the British Empire in 1981
 
 Was born in a mental asylum, his father Dr. James Harvey Cuthbert was a psychiatrist and the superintendent, and his mother Jean was a nurse

 He made his Broadway debut in The Homecoming in 1967. He went onto the win the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor, and later reprised his role in the 1973 film version

 Has a scar on his finger from an on stage swordfight he had with Laurence Olivier in Coriolanus in 1959
