History:

Gil-galad was born in Hithlum to Fingon, High King of the Noldorin Elves. After his grandfather, Fingolfin, died in single combat against the Dark Lord Morgoth, Gil-galad was sent to safety in Falas. He was named High King after the death of his uncle, Turgon. Many years later, c. SA 1693, Celebrimbor, forger of the Three Elven Rings, gave the greatest of the Rings, Vilya, to Gil-galad for safe-keeping.

In the Second Age, Gil-galad formed the Last Alliance of Elves and Men with Elendil. The two kings led their troops to the slopes of Mount Doom, where Gil-galad's spear, Aeglos, and Elendil's sword, Narsil, put fear into the bravest of orcs. After a seven year siege upon Mordor, the alliance overthrew Sauron, but their lords were slain. Gil-galad himself was burned to death by the heat from Sauron's body, although before he died, he gave Vilya to his herald, Elrond.
