Oh, hello. Allow me to introduce myself? I'm the humble creature krtr. Some facts about me? But of course. I'm seventeen, female. My hair is 70% curl and 30% frizz. I voluntarily left my country and I have one hundred and forty six days before I return to my home. I am displaced but thriving. I'm in a special time in my life, that is, I am enjoying my first big love. I hate to write but am only pleased once I have written. I have undergone a lifetime of growth in six months and survived, but it isn't as impressive a feat as it sounds. I am typically happy despite of my growing list of concerns. I am about to begin reading The Lord of the Rings for the first time. I was a small child when the movies hit theaters and, being blessed with lovely parents as I am, I saw all three upon their release. I'm currently sick (I seem to have caught the plague in Bonn) and so I recently re-watched on iTunes. I tried to read the books as a ten year old and failed miserably, but I'm ready to try again and intend to use the community as support in my endeavor. I'm here to proclaim my stupidity as I read by asking dumb things. So, hi. I'm krtr. |

Welcome to the forum, krtr! ![]() I'm Ana, resident sig set-changer and evil cookie queen. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! We're very friendly, and only bite when we're bored. I'm sure you'll have lots of help with reading the books, having a community of similar-minded (is that a word?) people around you will be an encouragement ![]() Well, see you around! |

Welcome, krtr! I'm Lhun, and like Ana said, don't hesitate to ask any questions I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with reading the LotR for the first time! The beginning might seem hard, but the rest is totally worth it, so just keep on reading.Looking forward to see you around here

Thanks for the welcome! I just bought book one for Kindle. Not my ideal way to read books as I much prefer real pages, but living abroad really limits me. I seriously doubt my failing German abilities to comprehend Herr der Ringe. |

Well, if you and study in Germany at the moment I'm sure you'll do alright reading in German, although you might enjoy LotR slightly more if you read it in English the first time.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a bookstore that sells them in English, if you prefer a physical copy to reading it on your Kindle. |

My spoken German is ok, but my written German and my reading abilities are sorely lacking. Maybe in a larger town, but my homestay is in a tiny village. It's proven surprisingly difficult to find English books in my area, so I typically just use the Kindle. It's easier and much less of a hassle than hunting down English books. It's also cheaper, and krtr loves cheap! |
