In addition of The Hobbit on the big screen tread:

I cannot imagine they would not make a movie out of the Silmarillon as well.. Just check out the money they made from making LotR! Everyone, and I mean absolutely everyone has seen that movie. I am sure all those people will go to the prequel as well. Concidering The Hobbit is a semi-prequel then :)

I think it'd be pretty next to impossible to film the Silmarillion because it's such a deep complex story. I would love to see a film of it though. If they ever do decide to take it on, I think several films would be good due to the scope of the book

Yes very good, think like that :)
Several films would be awesome! A Beren and Luthien movie would be splendid to start with :-D

I think that if they ever made a movie of Silmarillion, they'd actually just have to take parts of it and make a lot of movies - there's just too much material for only one!

But, like Eyalan said^, I would love to see a Beren and Luthien movie. :-D

But I think Christopher Tolkien said he would never allow movies of the Silmarillion to be made... of course, he might change his mind if properly convinced. :-P

It would be really hard to make since there isn't much dialogue in the begining, and it's so complex. Half of the movie would have to be narration to explain things.

Yes, I agree.. it would take too long and they wouldn't get all the info they needed to make the Silmarillion. I think the Beren and Luthien film is a good idea.. as long as they did it right!

yeah, it would be cool, yet boring because there wouldn't be alot of normal talking, but the beren and Luthien movie sounds cool. i would also like to see the Valar. that would be cool it if was done right.

it'd be more of a documentary than a movie. i mean true they could make a movie of the last parts but still it’d be very documentary-ish. yet still cool to see for us tolkien fans

Well, according to the RotK EE Commentary, the only Tolkien who participated was Rory(?) Tolkien. Apparently, the others refused to have anything to do with it. I doubt Christopher would give anyone the rights to The Silmarillion, and I really wouldn't want him to, either. That book has a far greater chance of being completely ruined if they try to make it into a movie than it does of being a success, and personally, I'd rather they not make a movie of it than to ruin it. That'd be awful, and I would hate whatever director was dumb enough to try it for ages afterwards.

There's almost no way they could do it in one movie, and most of it would be extremely boring for non-fans (such as the Ainulindale).

Indeed, I was pretty sure the Tolkien family had nothing to do with the movies...

And a resounding "hear hear" to the rest of what you said! I would only want a movie if they were going to do it well. Like if some major Tolkien fanatic decided to do it. And even then, I think it would be impossible to make a movie out of the whole book. Parts of it just wouldn't translate.

I couldn't imagina the Sil being a movie or a series. Of course it could be done somehow, but I don't think you can do it properly. E.g. picturing the Valar would be a very serious problem.
