Post subject:  Legolas saving Aragorn

Is it just me or has anybody else notice that in the movies Legolas saves Aragorn repeatedly? Legolas saves Aragorn from falling off of the edge in Moria, catches Aragorn when he jumps from one side of the bridge to the other in Moria, shoots an arrow at an orc that is particaly it not literaly on top of Aragorn near the end of FotR, warns Aragorn to run near the end of FotR, grabs Aragorn to help him drop the planatir without hurting himself (Aragorn), and pulls Aragorn (and Gimli) up the wall at Helm's Deep. Plus those are just I few that I know of right now...more than likely I'm forgetting some. In the books (as far as I have read so far) Legolas doesn't save Aragorn. So why does he repeatdly save him in the movies and do your think that it was done that way on purpose?
Personaly I think that it was aboslutely on purpose. Though I'm not quite sure of the reason unless they just wanted to make Legolas look like more of a hero. However in such case why did they have him keep saving just that one paticular person (for the most part or rather more so than the others)? Doesn't make much sense to me...anybody else have any theories on this?

Well, I dunno if Legolas ONLY saves Aragorn. It's Boromir he saves from falling off of the edge in Moria, not Aragorn, by the way, so he's saved Boromir. And doesn't he save Gimli a couple times in TTT?

They probably just want to make Legolas look heroic?

yeah I think he doesn't only save Aragorn, he saves several people. I think that's supposed to make him heroic and it also makes him a very helping and caring character in my opinion

Haha! My friend and I have a joke about this sort of thing. We find it extremely funny how they made Legolas such a big hero in the movies and joke that they only did it because of the fangirls. (not a true statement of course, but we have fun with it)

I think it's because Legolas doesn't say all that much, they give him actions instead. Which happen to be heroic. :-D

He saves a lot of people, that could be to make him look heroic, but It maybe also that he cares for his friends. If I was in his place I would totally do it.Saving friends,I mean. And kicking orc-butt. :-D

Try the Green Dragon Inn Section. If there is not one there you can create one. :)

Legolas was very heroic in the movies, more so than he was in the books. But that may be due to the fact that he is an elf of few words so he needed more to do.

God havnt been on here in years! *guilty look*

Whenever i see Orlando and Viggo appearing as Legolas and Aragorn on screen, i find it so easy to believe that these two have known (and been good friends) for many years, and would do a lot for each other. (Whether this is canon or not, i am not sure though)

But Legolas, as the only elven member of the fellowship is meant to be the eyes and ears of the group. What with his exceptional eyesight and hearing, he helps them to avert certain catastrophic situations. And i think really, as Legolas doesn't have a huge part in the movies (lines wise anyway) Peter Jackson and Fran and Phillipa, kind of made his part bigger by giving him more heroric scenes, so that you noticed his presence on screen.

*shrugs* my opinion anyway lol, its a load of random ramblings :)

Tis nice to be back : P

good you're back again :welcome:
Yeah, Legolas as the only elf is meant to be something special (even though he doesn't appear special or wise lines wise at all, but that's a different topic) and his senses are supposed to be exceptionally good, so I also think that it fits that he always saves other members of the Fellowship, particularly Aragorn of course.

In Moria, he saves Boromir and you missed the part where he comforts Aragorn after the dead army refuses to help (rotk ee edition). My theory is either Legolas wants to feel usefull or he's really devoted to Aragorn and helping him achieve his goal. He's also devoted in helping Aragorn reunite with Arwen. In TTT he gives Aragorn the evenstar that fell off when he went over the cliff and in ROTK he brought Arwen to Aragorn.

I think the fact that he helps Aragorn to reunite with Arwen is also supposed to underline their friendship. I think the friendship between Aragorn and Legolas is supposed to be very close and so this may also be just a way to express this.

I agree. PJ did a better job showing that then Tolkien did (sorry J.R.R.)
