I agree with the general consensus, At first I didn't like the song but it grew on me. I think the main reason was Annie Lennox did sing it, I've never been a fan of any of her other music. Because of my 7th grade gym teacher overplayed the Eurythmics. Ack! Sweet dreams are made of....Nooo....
Anyways, I have to admit "Into the West" grew on me. After awhile, I decided I did like it because she did in fact have a powerful voice. However the alternative RotK song, "Use Well The Days" is still my favorite :p

Aw, I really liked "In to the West" and I thought that Annie did it really well. I'm not quite sure why I like it so much, I just sort of do. :P My favourite 'credits' song was "Gollum's Song" and in my opinion Emiliana Torrini did a brilliant job. So many people rave about Enya but I prefer these two far more. I think it's probably because it's easier on the ears. (For me anyway.)

Well, that's just my opinion.
- End of rant -

EDIT: Sida, what's that alternate song? I can't say that I've heard it. Was it on the soundtrack?

It was not on the soundtrack, only on the limited edition. You can listen to it here: http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/music.html :-)

I love the song, but I'm not that fond of Annie Lennox's voice... It still sounds good, but I've heard people sing that would be even better. Not that they would ever be recognised by the LotR people.

"Gollum's Song" and "Into the West" scared the snot out of me the first time I listened to them. They said on the Appendices DVDs that they picked Annie Lennox because the emotion she puts into her songs, and I can't argue with them there, but I don't actually like Into the West that much. When I first saw the name of who sang it I was like Huh??? because I thought it was a man singing and it said Annie. I prefer "Use Well the Days." I heard it on a website, but I can't find it again, and the above link didn't work on my computer...does anyone else know where to find it?

The first time I heard it I thought, "These lyrics are beautiful, but Annie Lennox sounds like a man." Then I didn't hear the song for a while, but one day I played it on the computer. And my opinion was completely changed. I loved the whole song, even with Annie Lennox singing it. Her voice sounded beautiful to me the second time I heard it. now I love "Into the West".
However, after hearing "Use Well the Days" (thanks to Forever for the link above. :) ), I'm kind of torn. I don't know which one I like better. They're both beautiful.

Into the west is a phenomenal track, and Annie does it superbly. Me being a "guy", and all, I have to say that it brought a tear to my eye, whenst first I heard it. Truly heartwarming.

I think she has sort of a rough voice but I think it has its own beaty and I can definitely appreciate it.

It was okay. I mean her voice went brilliantly with the song i think and i will always think she reminds me of Galadriel voice wise. If Galadriel had a singing voice i believe it would sound like that. It's such a beautiful song though, if you look at pics from ROTK while listening to it and pics from TTT and FOTR you'll cry i guarentee it lol.

I always loved the song but I loved it even more after I found out who it was made for. A young buy from NewZeland was picked by Peter Jackson him self to make a comercial(or something like that) for the movies but then he found out that he had cancer, Peter had been just like him when he was a kid a felt really bad for him so he got to help out with the filming and they even let him use all their film stuff to make his own movie. He died 2 months after he finished his movie and never got to see rotk. Annie wrote it for him.

I'd say the song grows on you. The first time I heard it it was okay, but my sis loved it so we kept listening to it and now I like it.
