well, it is written to illustrate what is on screen, but I also think it has the power to express something also without the pictures. I think it also is good music by itself, not just in combination with the pictures and I can listen to it without watching the pictures and still enjoy it a lot.

Yeah it is the same for me. And I agree, Howard Shore is a brilliant composer.

For me, it's In Dreams closely followed by Into the West.

And I agree that the LotR soundtracks (as well as the Harry Potter soundtracks) are perfect examples of music that can convey powerful emotion on their own. Although it is true that much of the emotion in the movies comes from the soundtrack (e.g. I know that part of the reason I always cry at the end of FotR is because of the music), I feel just as strongly when I listen to the music on CD.

For me - Gollum's Song. It hurts my heart but I love this feeling. One of my favorite soundtrack songs.

I am really torn between Gollum's Song and May It Be. I loved them both the moment I heard them. Enya's voice is amazing and I have always loved her. However There is a haunting beauty about Gollum's Song that is just beautiful.

In the end I voted for Gollum's Song because that is always the one that always captivates me and sadly... Is the most relatable to me.

All of the songs are wonderful and beautiful though.
