I grew up with parents who were fans of the books and my older sister read them pretty early in her life. Middle-Earth was always there, often talked about. I remember this lovely LotR painting that used to hang over my sister bed. I was in love with it and would always go look at it. My mom would often read "The Hobbit" as a bedtime story for my sister and I when we were little. I then read the books in my teens finally. I was 17 going on 18 when FotR came out in theater and I saw all three movies in the cinema (usually in the first week of release). I loved the books and movies instantly. Sure the movies might have been slightly flawed in the storytelling but it was beyond everything I had ever dreamed it would be visually. I'm at peace with most of the changes now.

i had no interest in LOTR whatsoever when the movies came out. didn't want to see it and didn't care. then i found out that my boyfriend was a huge fan of it. my first thought was "oh god no". he went on about how awesome it was that and i should see it. he hounded me for awhile about it until i finally gave in and said "fine, if it'll make you happy i'll watch it". *gasp* i shouldn't have listened to him in the first place. i ended up loving it. that put a big smile on his face.

same here, Wingfoot. i read them after i saw the movies. i wish i was older and could've seen them in the theater, or they came out later! that would be so cool to see them in the cinema!

I was 12 when I first watched FotR. That's the first time I had anything to do with LotR. It just blew me away and since then I've been a fan

I was at my little brother's 4th grade Christmas show and there were some other girls from my class (7th grade) there for their sibs, and one of them asked if I wanted to go see Lord of the rings with them. So I did, and I really liked it, but I didn't develop an obsession until I discovered the languages and history of Middle-earth.
I'm really glad I found Lotr though, because if I hadn't, I would probably be wearing a jedi costume right now.

I was at a friend (Maethoriel707's) house for 3 days and 2 nights... sooo we watched the EXTENDED EDITIONS like alll in a row... ok not really but there were only a few hours in between... then I went over to my other Friend (~*Took_by_Marriage*~) house and she showed me this site! YAYYYY! I loved it! soon after I began RPing on the tag board and then the backup taggeh and so forth... then I joined the forum! I have also submitted a few poems and songs and such in the fan section...^^

lol...i was introduced to the hobbit by my aunt, and i didnt know english back then, so i read it in spanish, i LOVED it...! so then we bought the FOTR (book)and omg, i tried reading it in spanish, but i would zone out, and had to re-read pages...it was quite hard for me....since i didnt have a very good vocabulary in any language yet...
some time later the movies came out and i became a fan, i would watch, watch again....and try to remember what i knew of middle earth from the hobbit.... but that kinda faded away from memory and even thought i was in love with Lotr i was not a complete fan, then i think it was in 8th grade actually when i met this girl (shes in a-u too!!.... mrs.gamgee) and she was a huge fan of Lotr and was reading the books, and since at the time had a pretty good vocabulary i started reading the books along with her and the obsession came back (she also introduced me to a-u)

First of all I'm a 57yr. old grand-mother of 5, and just like everyone on this board LOVE all the writings of Professor Tolkien! I was first introduced to the amazing world of Hobbits, Elfs etc after the first movie came out. My son and his wife came home for a visit and with him he carried something that would change my life forever. Yes, it was his copy of the extended FOTR. Well, he asked me to set down and watch it with him, (I could tell he was very excited to see my reaction to what I was about to see). I have to admit I wasn't too crazy to see it, for I did not know anything about it, but let me tell you it wasn't long before I was totally into it!! I made my husband go and purchase a copy the very next day! I was hooked!! I now have all the extended movies: as to the music, the Complete recordings of FOTR and TT and am anxiously waiting for the Complete Recording of ROTK; and have been to both ORC conventions. So yes, I am definatly hooked big time!
