My children WILL be read The Hobbit. Or at least parts of it. I can see myself reading to them before they're even *born*, actually. :P

Let me state for the record that I LOVE Pirates and I LOVE Capt. Jack. I was NOT a Johnny Depp fan....until Pirates came along. These movies are simply wonderful and I love them. That being said.....they are not even in the same catagory as LOTR. Nor are any of the others. Yes, this is an LOTR forum; however the brillance of LOTR has been noted by many outside of this forum. It stands alone on it's own merit. Tolkien's work has been around for many, many years and it's excellence has been known. PJ brought that excellence to the entire world by his excellence in film. No other films have touched what Tolkien and Jackson have been able to accomplish. They stand in a class above all others. LOTR should never die. If it does, that will be a sad day indeed. How many forums are dedicated to LOTR? How many conventions were and still are dedicated around the world to LOTR? How many professionals in all fields of study have been involved? Can that be said of the others?

Again I say, LOTR stands alone....and I stand with it!

As to this thread's topic... Lord of the Rings is my favorite. It has been for nearly six years now, and I don't know if anything could change that. I may not be quite as openly obsessed anymore... which I think is mostly just because I've grown up. But if anything over the years I've come to love it more than before... it's shaped the person I have become, and will continue to shape me. The characters and I have been through some pretty tough journeys together, and I don't think anything could break the friendship I've formed with them. The lands of Middle Earth have become as much my home as America is - in some ways more, because it's the land of my mind and imagination.

Is Lord of the Rings dying?

No. It never will. So long as some of us still are friends with the characters, so long as some of us still remember crying our eyes out the first time we read and/or watched the Gray Havens... it will live on. Will the fad die? It pretty much has. The fad that was LotR-mania is nearly dead. But still, in quiet rooms all over the world, fans are still curled up reading LotR for the countless time under the watchful eyes of posters of Legolas and Aragorn. It's going to live on quietly, gently, but forever - in us.

(Oh, and for all you Monty Python fans, I should've said this a long time ago: "[It's] not dead yet!" :P)

I'm really a die-hard fan, and the whole trilogy holds a very special place in my heart. I do enjoy PotC and HP, but they really just don't compare in my mind...
