Ah yes... I have gotten the "LotR is based on Eragon/HP" thing before... sigh... and the "why didn't they just fly on the eagles?" and "Isn't Arwen the one that kills the dragon?" AAAAHHHHH!!!!

I then give whoever was crazy enough to ask an hour-long lecture on LotR, the Sil, and UT. I go into detail about Arwen's lineage, and into Beren and Luthien - especially about how Aragorn is actually related to Arwen by them. Then I tell them about the fell beasts, and the eagles.

Their eyes glaze over about 5 minutes into it...

I don't understand the people saying LotR is based off books that came after it.

How do they get that? Rejects.

Comments from my "intelligent" brother...

- "Why didn't they just fly on the eagles?"
- "Why didn't they throw that Ring into a chemical substance which can destroy gold?"
- "Elves are immortal, why do they die when they are hit by an arrow?"
- "Why didn't the ringwraiths die when they were swept away by the water?"
- "Why didn't Frodo die?"
- "Why did Gandalf survive?"
- "Why did Frodo went to the Havens alone?"

:duh: :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh:

All I can say to this is: Do something intelligent and read the books, stupid!!!!

^Oh my. Epic fail.

:duh:

My mother is constantly confusing Eragon and Aragorn, also. Just the names, not the characters, but even so. :eyeroll:

It's like in that "How It Should've Ended" vids on youtube. There's one for LotR... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yqVD0swvWU

yeah I know..
Many people seem to ask that question. They never read the books and don't know that the quest had to be done in secrecy and they probably never heard of ringwraiths on fell beasts either..

^ The eagles would've worked, but it wouldn't be much of a story,

well I dunno.. if they had flown with the eagles it would've been really easy for Sauron to discover them and even the eagles couldn't fly the whole distance without a break, so I'm not sure if it would've worked really..

Well, I got my best friend to watch the movies with me, she loved them, and I believe she's going to read the books...

...once she's done reading Breaking Dawn...

...and once she returns my mom's Narnia books. XD

What sometimes bothers me though, is my younger sister. She claims to love the movies {which I made her watch XD}, but one time I was trying to hold a conversation...

Sis: Wait a minute, who's Gandalf?

Me: *Bangs head against wall*

The only LotR-related thing she cares about is imitating Gollum. *Rolls eyes*

Oh, and there was this one time when I was telling her how the books were actually different then the movies, and she said something like "Oh, I watched the movies, that means I know everything about Lord of the Rings."

Me: Ok then, who's Tom Bombadil?

Her: Why do I have to tell you?

Me: You have no idea who Tom Bombadil is.

Her: Yes I do.

Me: Then who is he?

Her: Why do I have to tell you?!?

Later, she admited to me that she really had no idea who Tom Bombadil is...and she still won't even touch the books.

Ignorant movie-fans irritate the living hell out of me, I'm not gonna lie.

Oh god Esteleth, that conversation really sounds like a little sister not admitting that she's wrong.. I absolutely know situations like these. Luckily my little sister (the one who likes LotR; the other one just hates it) followed all my wise ;) instructions and read the books before watching the movies.
