I've never really noticed, but Robert Plant must have been just as obsessed as we are with Lord of the Rings, or J.R.R. Tolkien's work. He was the lead vocalist for Led Zeppelin and it was obviously before the movies so he must have read the books many times. He puts in some crazy things relating to LotR to, like this one:

Ramble on - "In the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair. But Gollum, and the evil wall, crept up and slipped away with her."

He also has songs strictly about LotR too, Misty Mountain Hop, The Battle of Evermore, and I'm sure others that I haven't discovered. Check out the lyrics, it's intense, especially The Battle of Evermore.

Has anybody else noticed this before? Please tell me yes.

i've read somewhere before about how heavily tolkien influenced led zeppelin. just goes to show how big an impact he had.

random cool fact, john bonham was from my hometown. sorry, i just feel the need to point that out at any opportunity cuz it's pretty much my town's only claim to fame.

I know even less...just Stairway to Heaven. But even the lyrics:

the lyrics from stairway to heaven wrote:
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold

reminds me of Galadriel and Lothlorien.

I don't really know. It's hard to say, if you like classic rock you will definately like them but if you don't like the whole classic rock thing it's hard to say if you will. They have a lot of good songs though.
If you're looking for songs to pirate (YaHarr!) , pirate the 3 I mentioned. They relate to Tolkien's work the most.

Hahaha, the only thing cool about my hometown is the stupid circus. I don't understand it.

Oh definitely Led Zep was(is) influenced by Tolkien! The Battle for Evermore is the most well-known song with LotR in it, but many of their songs have references, some very obvious. Other classic rockers of the time also included Tolkien-esque lyrics in their songs. :)
