I've been wondering this for awhile now, "Why do you like Lord of the Rings" Naturally, we are all gathered here together for one reason or another, and I'm curious why? Is it the moving story? Good Vs. Evil? Awesome fight scenes? The Book? Costumes? Or maybe it's Orlando Bloom....Whatever it is; share it here:

For me, I've loved Lord of the Rings around 13 almost 14 years ever since my dad read it to me. I think it was the mystical aspect of the story that first caught my eye, how all the characters fought for what they believed in, it had great moral values to it.

As for the movies, I was very happy when I learned that they would be making the books into a movie, I saw the Bakashi version in school, and wasn't thoroughly pleased with it, come on what was Aragorn wearing? Exactly. Anyways, What drew me to the movies was the fine details; making you believe you were actually in Hobbiton or Rivendell. Of course the morals in the story are great...fighting for what you believe in, using the time you have to do something great ect.

So now back to my Original question: "So, You're here...I'm here, and Why do you like Lord of the Rings?"

i first watched LOTR because my brothers had seen them and they said they were good.i like LOTR because of,well, everything!the story, the characters, the epic battles......
i read the books later and liked them 2.its a great story and i reckon the movies captured that very well.

In Lord of the Rings, things get so desperate in the beginning. But in the end, everything seems to come together. I think that's the strength of the whole story. No matter how worse things get, they all seem to have some kind of purpose in the end. It's life in a nutshell.

Well I'm not really a fan of the films so I'll just have to say what it is I like about the books.

I think what gets me mostly is Tolkien's use of narrative. When I'm reading something I often find that the most important thing when it comes to my enjoyment of a book is the way that the author has written it. I think Lord of the Rings is written so beautifully, with such ashtonishing descriptions of people and places. I think Tolkien wrote so emotively too, and his warm, witty and yet subtle sense of humour which contrasts so beautiful with the despair that is often described.

I love the way that the characters are all so deep: one can feel so emotionally attatched to the characters almost as much as they do their own friends! I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wished that they were a character from the book, or longed to marry Faramir or some other heroic character.

And then there's the hopeful optimism of the book. Yes, it's bleak at times but I think it shows that no matter how bad things get that if you work hard enough everything will always turn out alright and you can conquer anything.

These questions are always so hard for me to answer because I can never quite figure out why I like something, I just do. I can't figure out what appeals to me about it. All I know is that my mom read me the trilogy and the Hobbit when I was a kid for bedtime stories and then she came to me excited because they were being made into movies, excluding the Hobbit. I kinda grew up on the books. They aren't just enjoyable for me they bring back good memories about when I was a kid. I love my mom, I just thought I'd throw that in there.

I love it because of the richness of the stories. Many other books do not have that full richness that Middle Earth does. Middle earth seems real, whereas other stories may seem sort of real, and you can picture them vividly, but they just don't seem to work. Tolkien reaches a very high level.

^I agree... i love it because we can relate to the issues happening there to the ones in society, and at the same time, get a really good fantasy story! I love both the movies and the books, but each have their different feel. I can't compare the two, because one is not better than the other, they're different and unique in their own ways. Luckily, i was only 9 when i read LotR for the 1st time, and i didn't really get it, so when i watched the movies, it cleared a lot of things up for me, and so i decided to read it again. and again. and now again... :P i appreciate both works, as they are works of absolute genius. i wanna live in Middle-earth!!!!!! :P

I've thought about that question for a long time... I could only partly answer it, because I still haven't really found out why I like it so much... dunno

I love these books because they have a timeless quality. They are such enjoyable stories, written so emotionally and beautifully and they bring me to think about life and teach me wonderful lessons. Their depth is breathtaking, mysterious and thrilling to me.

And they take me into a world beyond what I can see—opening up to me the deeper truths and realities of life—realities that transcend this world. Their power to uplift as well as entertain is off the scale! As I’ve said before, they are very dear to me and I not only bless Tolkien for writing them but I also bless the day I discovered them.

I really love LotR particularly and any well-written fantasy because it takes me somewhere I can't go. Ever since I was really little I wanted to go live in Narnia, or more recently wished I could read myself into a book, and when I sorta rediscovered LotR is was like my ULTIMATE fantasy world. Perhaps because there's so much history and it's so believable....but I have a sneaking suspicion that one of my subconscious reasons for wanting to live in Middle-Earth is that I could meet Aragorn. *squeal* But yeah, LotR takes me where I want to go and I love all the characters and what they sacrifice for each other - and it proves that you CAN make a difference, even if you're a hobbit!

I think if there were no movies, I would not be quite as obsessed as I am, because the movies really put it into action for me and *ahem* the guys are all....really cute...but I digress.

Oh, and of course there's all my lovely elf maidens! I'm always the person who majorly adores all the princess people in any story (when I was little I ADORED Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty) and they're all so pretty and elflike!

d// I love the whole "when all hope is lost keep going" thing.
