^Suarons armour, the dead Boromir, and the One Ring were all so...so..whats the word.....almost like addicting! I just stood there for like ten minutes staring at them, and every time I got to the exit of the exhibit I just couldn't help going back to look at them again. Mum had to literaly drag me out of the exhibit after I had spent 3 hours looking at everything.

Galadriel and Arwens dresses were amazing!!!! I wish I could have stolen them......... :sly: or maybe I did.....jk.... :)

Yes... I think it did go to toronto... Who all was there?
(I love your avatar)

While I was there I ended up chatting with the security guards(this was the only exhibit in the museum with them :) ) and it turns out that none of them had seen the movies!! :confused2:

*groan/sob* It was in Boston last year, 2 1/2 hours away from my house, but I didn't go see it :duh: :'(

It weirds me out that you live no farther away from me than a half hour...it would be so weird if we'd seen each other around and didn't know! I have to get an AU shirt so that if you see it you'll know it's me. :P

I did go, twice, because I live in a family of four Ringers! :D It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I think we stayed in for four hours each way. My friend drew an amazing picture (took her forty minutes!) of Gil Galad's shield, it's featured on ACS, lemme see if I can find it... *searches*
Hey, I totally forgot that I wrote a review for ACS! :P Here's the link, it has the picture of his shield on it.

Whoa thats AWESOME Nienor!!!!!

Yeah I spent like 3 hours in the whole exhibit, my family had to drag me out. If they hadn't I'd have probably stayed for like another two hours!

WHAT???!!!! Houston wouldn't even allow that!!! I was taking notes on the costumes, and making a list of the objects, when a guard came up and took my notebook! But since there were no drawings, he had to give it back. Luckily, I had kept all of my sketches in my jacket pocket.

I know, I'm on another list and people have been discussing it. (FYI- no sketching at Indiana exhibit either)
It's completely utterly ridiculous. I guess I got lucky, I took tons of notes and got my friends to draw for me both times I went, and guards looked right at us and didn't care! The people on the costume list suspect that they just don't want people getting too much info about costumes and lowering interest in a book. They think there might be a LotR costume book some day in the future...but that's not confirmed.

WHAT??????????///
No sketching exhibits????????????
I was counting on being able to do that!! No pictures? No sketching? What are we supposed to have as a souvenier then? Our ticket stub? A $300 Evenstar pendant?
Thanks for the info though, I was going to bring a sketchbook.
They also won't let you bring swords. :disgust:

It is really frustrating. I've heard a few suggestions for cheating the rule, but I'm not one for breaking the law so I won't list them here. ;)
My one suggestion: Bring a sketchbook, if you're brave, and don't hide it. See if they notice and take it away. Until they do, write down notes, don't sketch. Or create a code for yourself...make it look like you're taking random notes, or like you're carrying around your schedule planner. Even that seems a bit deceptive. But it's such a good opportunity lost!

i *might* be able to go. of course, probably everyone in my family is annoyed about me liking lotr so much, but whatever, the timing's perfect because we usually go see family up there for thanksgiving. it sounds really interesting :)

HEY! Guess what?! I just found out that notes WILL be allowed!
Here's what I heard from someone who's working with the Indy people:Note taking will be allowed.

Chainmail making demo okayed (Museum getting in touch with SCA)
Costume contests okayed - we will be judges
Acting as tour guides to exhibit in our costumes okayed!
Greeting people at door in our costumes - okayed!

Book reading NOT okayed - Museum is trying to see if reading from the
script will be acceptable.

Sleepins will be on Saturday Oct 15, Friday, November 11 and Wednesday
December 28. Fee is $50. The museum is currently working on this
event, we are asked to greet visitors as they arrive, judge a costume
contest and do some role playing. For example, Gandalf (yours truly)
will appear on the third floor skybridge as the movie lets out, greet
participants, urge them not to take the easy way (the elevators) and
direct them into the gallery. David McDaniels, whom I am working
with, will write a role for you appropriate to your costume.

Anyone who volunteers to help the Musuem at an event will NOT be
charged an admission fee.

Opening night events are still being planned. What I can release at
this point:

Party for Members Only in Canal View Cafe 6:00 - 10:00 (remember that
an individual membership is only $39).
One of the LOTR movies will be shown before the exhibit opens at
midnight.
