I've been away from the community for a long time, but LotR had reached me again through an unforseen encounter I had last week. I was traveling around through some city in Europe with a friend and I had just seated myself in some pub, when an unknown elderly guy sat down beside me and shared the most beautiful story I ever heard.

In short: Just before his wife died from cancer years ago she gave him something. Something precious. The man looked down and took out his necklace. At this hung The One Ring. I recognized it immediately, though I wasn't sure what the script said. "That's Tengwar!" I said enthousiastically. He smiled and gave me a spontanious hug. "That's exactly what it is.." he said.

After that we shared some beers and a couple of hours talking with each other about everything and nothing, and I regained my love for Tolkien with each sip and each laugh. I could almost feel the spirit and almost expected to see hobbits running around when I left the pub (could have been the booze lol).

So anyway what I wanted to say is that once you get infected by the Tolkien-virus there is no way of ever getting out. And that's a good thing if you ask me ^_~

Great story, it looks like he spotted you as a fellow Ringer in the crowd! Welcome back to Tolkiendom and to the forum. It's been kinda deserted lately but some members are putting up Return of the Rings 2009 for this summer, so there should be some LotR related activity around! :-)

I am extremely new right now (as in.. i just came back an hour ago to a-u)

I would like to personally high-five you right now.. *high five* because I know how you feel... I've recently re-read the FOTR, and am about to have an extended-edition marathon tomorrow...! I was spurred by a spontaneous gift from my b/f of the histories of middle earth, something I've been meaning to read for a long time... Lately I've been thinking about this place quite a bit and I chose to come back right now... Love re-kindled and all!
