Who makes LOTR costumes? They are not hard and very satisfying when completed.

I've been visiting alleycatscratch obsessively for over a year now, and I think I've digested as much information as I can. Right now, my mom and I are sewing Simplicity 9891 view A for practice (she knows a lot more about sewing than I do!)
I have a friend who's lending me her dress double soon, and I'm going to start practicing drafting. The bodice will be the hard part...I figure if I start now, I might (MIGHT) be able to make Eowyn's white wool by Christimas 2006.

I, too, have visited alleycatscratch.com and i'm in the process of making Arwen's coronation gown and its turning out wonderfully for a novice at sewing! :-D I made a generic elf dress last year for the museam exhibit opening with Simplicity 9891 and it turned out alright except the sleeves were a bit difficult to move in.

Which view of 9891 did you use? I guess that's the most widely used pattern..it was Simplicity's LotR costumes before the movie came out. I hate the fact that they have princess seams, but there's not anything we can do about that.
I'd love to see any pictures you have of any dresses you've made/are making! Please post!

I used view A i believe, the one with the sheer sleeves. And there is a way to get princess seams out. You just tape your two pattern pieces together and then cut it out of the fabric that way(I strongly recommend a mock up first though!). I did that for my coronation gown as the pattern i used (simplicity 4940, the LotR one) had princess seams. I'm so nearly done with this dress (i'm putting the collar on today! :) ) so when it's done i'll post pics of both of my dresses on alleycatscratch.com under the name Thera.:) Good luck with your dress! :-D

i'm making an arwen dress and the sleeves are flimy...and all the rest of it is dark purpley blueish. and it is going to have a big train-thing!

I actually know how to get rid of princess seams, but I wanted experience first.
Yes, always do mockups, and test, test, test! :P
Anyway, just borrowed the dress dummy, I'm so excited! I'm designing my own white witch costume for the narnia opening. We'll see if I can pull it off. (I doubt it!)

My friends and I are going to the opening, it'll be so much fun. Our costumes will be the Lion, the Witch, the Wardrobe, Lucy and Reepicheep. :P

The year before last I was an Ent for halloween! It was a full body suit of foam. with leaves and moss and everything. I stood 7 feet tall. :-D Last year I was a fountain guard from Minas Tirith, I made the armor and everything. I also use Alleycatscratch obsessivly, for this year I shall be a ranger.

I've tried to convince my mom to buy me fabric and help me, but she knows i'd never wear it anywhere so she won't. Last winter she did help me make a cape, the only reason she let me is because I made it out of fleece and I can wear it as a robe. It is very cool!
