Samwise. Although Aragorn and Legolas were skilled and just being awesome, Sam never gave up and always supported Frodo. If not for him, the Ring would have been taken. |

I was about to vote for Aragorn or Legolas, but Sam was just really strong and kept persevering no matter what. Merry is also an important character. Without him, the Ents wouldn't have destroyed Isengard and who knows what else Saruman could have done. Without Merry, the Witch-King wouldn't have been defeated, but still, Samwise Gamgee is a really good example

Yes! And I love how even though he went through everything with Frodo, he still rebuilt his life in the Shire, and had thirteen kids

Thirteen to be exact. Faramir is also a good character, he resisted the temptation of the Ring, but in the movie he's not like that (Humph!) |

Samwise, always. Why? Because he is the only reason the ring ever gets destroyed. He helps Frodo, pulls Frodo along, supports him, carries him, encourages him, and even after Frodo basically spits Sam in the face he still comes back and goes the distance to make sure the ring is destroyed. Without Sam, Frodo would have failed miserably. |
