From The Silmarillion:

"It is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen.”

It seems to fit particularly well with my great love for the oceans that cover most of our beautiful planet.

For me, there is one scene in RoTK, where P(eter) J(ackson) nailed the central point of LoTR, for once (he had so may wides in the hours before that - never mind *sigh*). It may only be in the E(xtended) E(dition), but whatever. Aragorn and Arwen have been married, and they walk towards Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin who are standing near the outer edge of the top level of Minas Tirith (where the replanted White tree stands and where the Tower of Ecthelion has its base). When Aragorn and Arwen approach, the Hobbits start to bow to them, but are stopped by Aragorn's statement: "My friends, you bow to no one!", and all who stand before the four Hobbits, including Aragorn and Arwen, bow to them ... as they should.

Frodo: 'Have you been drinking the Gaffer's homebrew again?"
Bilbo: No... well, yes, but that's not the point."

The fact that RoTK the movie ended with the same three words by Sam as in the book: "Well, I'm back."

I adore quotes! There are so many in Tolkien’s writings that it’s difficult to choose. Especially Gildor's. But these come to mind.

"The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot for ever fence it out."

“Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.”

and the corollaries to the one above:

“Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste like peanut butter.”

and

"Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup."

Looks like the wizard should have heeded the warning!
