Thanks Jax! Yeah it wasn't planned when we took the pictures but it turned out pretty good I think. The second video shows comparisons between the camp in the video game and the camp we set up.

Thanks Hanasian! That means a lot. I plan too and hopefully maybe we can do it again next year. Thank you again for the kind words everyone!

Yeah, you guys did a great job with that! It's cool how you replicated the scene from the game. I have always wanted to do stuff like that but never known anyone in Real Life that would have ever done it with me. Sadly I am pretty isolated from other Tolkien fans.

Pretty much the same real-life situation for me, Jax. Zilch Tolkienites around me. So when I finally got Internet access at home in October 2013, one of the first things I searcher for was JRRT stuff. Ended up at the Tolkien Society UK (and I’m still a member) but what I was really looking for was what I found in a link the TS then (now no longer) had to Council of Elrond. And then in spring of this year Hanasían and E~S, both CoE members, guided me over her to A-U a bit over seven months ago. Of course some things are duplicated, but together CoE and A-U cover more ground than either alone. And of course there was this one chat a while ago on CoE, must have been on a weekend, when I was right in the middle, time-wise: Hanasían (in his CoE alter-ego) 9 hours ahead of me (at Central European Time 2 AM) in Queensland, E~S 9 hours behind in British Columbia. They were actually only 6 hours apart, with this tiny little detail of the dateline at 180 degrees longitude east/west in the middle of the Pacific. ;-)

Seems to be a common thread for many. Glad you joined us here as well, though!

I always thought it would be cool to get together with other members of AU for a recreation of something out of the movies. It is cool to see Boromir doing that on his own!

With those datelines and distances it obviously wouldn't work for all of us to get together but I guess this is the next best thing.

There may be German-language sites comparable to A-U and CoE. But back when I was snooping around the Internet in my 2013 beginnings, an alternative to the Tolkien Society UK would have been the Deutsche Tolkien Gesellschaft, founded in 1997 (TS in 1972 with some earlier activity). For a short while I mulled becoming a member in both societies, but as my JRRT stuff is (by default) massively English, I decided to join the original. As per Amon Hen 267, the latest of the bi-monthly booklets published by the TS, membership (with yearly dues) is now over 1300, apparently the highest ever, and close to twice that of 2013, the year that I also joined.

Now TS has 30 years of total focus on books – I don’t know when they went online. And Tom Shippey in his 2000 “Author of the Century” mentions LoTR sales at that time of perhaps 50 million. Now the numbers seem to be at least triple that, if not quadruple or more (there seems to be a fairly large margin of error in trying to get plausible figures for sales, similar to single, LPs, CDs and whatnot for the music industry). We, on the other hand, are probably competing (for attention, thus time spent) with Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, and the 9000-pound gorilla of them all, Marvel Comics movies of all sorts. And many of you could probably name a lot of other stuff, very much so about TV series that have never made it to Germany (or at least not into channels that I watch). We need more bookies, is my hunch.

Yes, more book people I think would help greatly. *nods*

Announcement! We are setting the camp site up next weekend! Really excited that we get a chance to set it up this year! First time I will get to wear the Gondor bracers. We have some new ideas for this year so we will see how it turns out.

Indeed. Here is hoping. Are you going to do a video/slideshow on youtube this time as well, or just pictures?

Planning on a video slideshow. I enjoy making those. I know it takes a little longer though. Hope that's ok.
