| Post subject: | Who's Elbereth?? |
I heard/read alot about her/him in the books and movies, but I never really figured out who or what (s)he was/is, and it's driving me crazy  Could someone please tell me  sorry if this is a really stupid question  I'm a really new fan to lotr, and havn't read all the books and it never explains who/what he/she is in the movies.....

Well in truth, Elbereth is basically another name for Varda, Elbereth is less widely known name. She was created by Iluvatar and is the wife of Manwe.

I think she's sorta like the queen of the stars. She made them. I think. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong! |

Yeah, she created the stars. The Elves love her the most out of all the Valar, because the first thing they saw when they were created were the stars. I read in the Sil or somewhere that she was the one Morgoth was the most afraid of. I don't remember why. |

She was created by Iluvatar and is the wife of Manwe. I would say Elbereth is the more common name for Varda. As far as I remember she is called Varda in the Silmarillion and Elbereth in the trilogy.

I see. I only know her as Varda....but I know that Frodo calls her Elbereth in Fellowship of the Ring. Thanks Ea. |
