Does your friends/relatives tease you of being a Ringer? do you feel like your friends leave you out? does someone think you're a nutter? my answer to all of the questions = YES! i'm a Ringer, i LOVE classical music (including all the musics from LOTR) and i like also celtic music and enya's music. i play the violin, and everyone thinks i'm a nutter because i listen/play that kind of music and cause i'm always talking about LOTR. can anyone help me and share their thoughts, please???

^ It's like you described my life! Every time I start saying something about LotR, everyone tries to change topic or get away from me as fast as they can... No good feeling!
I love reading english books, and this alone would have been enough for everyone to think I'm not normal, but that I love LotR and everything LotR related, and that I could listen to classical music or any music I can think about LotR with is enough to think that I'm totally crazy. Sometimes I really feel like an outsider at school...

i feel like an outsider also!!! there's no one in our class to discuss lotr with and that's just what i want to talk about!!!!!!!! and i think everyone has the right to be who they are, to like any music they want, WITHOUT being labelled as a nutter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Completely right, and we also have to accept that not all people like LotR, but they have no right to treat us like that...

Yes. I felt like an outsider in my grade. I was basically the only LOTR fanatic in my grade and the only girl crazy about action movies. Luckily for me the girls in my class were all very nice and supportive but still it was harder since I did not share a lot of their same interests.

I feel exactly like u Elensar, I'm also the outsider, because I like LotR and play an instrument and listen to Enya and all that.. I accept it if people don't like LotR, but they should at least let us be ourselves and try to be nice to us although we're a bit different from them, but I guess I'm the only one in my class thinking like that..

Of course I'm a nut, but then again I hang out with people who call themselves the Uniques!

Well...
"To bear a Ring of Power is to be alone."
I think it's kinda the fate of most Ringers to be outsiders, but not just because we're Ringers. There's a certain personality type that tends to like LotR, and I've seen it a lot here (at least, in the people that stay around for long). We're not afraid to be a bit different, and we don't change ourselves just because it's not popular. We know what we like and could talk about it for hours because it's something we enjoy and not just something that we feel like we should enjoy. We're also all a bit more on the intellectual side. That's not to say we get perfect grades, but we're not afraid to think a little bit harder and go a little bit deeper into something than is the norm. I mean, you have to think pretty hard just to get through the first half of the FotR book . Plus, we're all just a little bit nutty (but in a good way!). Tolkien most appeals to the slightly eccentric sense of humor, so we're perfect for it.
Do I wish every now and then that people would at least acknowledge me when I walk up to them? Sure. But I wouldn't trade being a Ringer for anything in the world.

yeah me too! i wouldnt change being a Ringer into anything!!! but still it's not nice to be alone... 'I know...it's just...I'm afraid to do it...' and 'bieng a ring-bearer is to be alone!' maybe we should rekindle some hope of those (specially the latter one) sentences...we are alone, but here, in a-u, we can meet, no matter where we are from! 'to be a ringbearer is to be alone'........................

I always feel like a kind of outsider when it comes to my friends. Of course I have friends and I hang out with them, but sometime's they'll be talking about something that I totally don't follow. It makes me feel kind of... different. I usually only feel really accepted when I'm with other people who share my infatuation with LotR.
Fortunately, my family is also into LotR [maybe not as obsessed though] and sometimes we even discuss LotR at the dinner table.

you lucky bunny!
you can discuss it with your family, I cant cause they dont really understand what's it all abt! and i have the same thing abt my friends, i have fun with them and hang out...but never can mention a word abt LOTR without those 'wacko-watcha-on-about- again' - looks... but I just have to learn to live with it...and i can always escape from their nasty looks in my dreams...to Middle-Earth!

Duh! Yes I do, for both of the first two reasons! And I don't agree with people making fun of people like us who are LotR freaks. . .it's just not right. I think they should at least talk to us once in a while and see exactly why we like LotR, and then hopefully, they'd watch/read LotR and start to like it as well!
