Okay, I got some of these titles such as Ringer, Purists, Tolkienites and Tolkienists from Wiki, others from everyday interaction with Tolkien Fans. I'm working on a quiz for this on quizilla, but don't have any pics done for the answers yet. :P

So, from my observations:

Some call Tolkien fans...

Ringers

Some call them

Fangirls or Fanguys*

Some call Tolkien fans

Tolkienoholics*

Some call Tolkien Fans

Maniacs

Some Tolkien Fans are known as

Purists

Some Tolkien Fans are known as

Tolkienists

Some call themselves

Tolkienites

Others call themselves

Tolkien Scholars in Training

Then there are Regnirs. Either they have no fandom at all, or they have completely lost their fandom (it's ringers spelled backwards)

-----------------

As a RINGER, your life is about LotR. You're a general fan.

A TOLKIENOHOLIC is additcted to LotR and has been addicted since your very first taste, and aren't about to give LotR up any time in the future.

A FANGIRL can't understand why someone WOULDN'T be obsessed with your favorite _______________ .

A MOVIE MANIAC and knows pretty much everything there is to know about the LotR movies!

As a PURIST, you suspected PJ would changed Tolkien's story, and when you saw the movies, you were upset to find your fears confirmed. You can't understand how someone can be a real fan and enjoy those perversions of LotR!

A TOLKIENIST studies the works of Tolkien and the Elvish languages.

A TOLKIENITE is long-time reader of his books, and aren't about to stop any time soon.

A Tolkien-Scholar-In-Training's whole life is Tolkien. You read and re-read his books. You make notes, connections, you study his life, his influences...

------------------------------------

But many others just call us all

NUTS. :bones: :confused2:

Bah. Humbug. :duh:

I'm hovering somewhere between Ringer and Movie Maniac. :P In the end I went with Ringer because it seems to cover everything pretty well! And the books were much better than the movies, so you've got to give them some credit. Insane works pretty well too... I don't see a difference! :D

I'm a Ringer with purist tendancies, so I voted ringer. Ringer covers me pretty well, but I also can get quite annoyed when the films change things.
Not all things irritate me - mainly Faramir-related changes, I think. Partly because those scenes I felt really strongly about when I read them. They were (and are) the sections and I reread and reread. So because it was a part of the book I felt strongly about, it was hard for the film to live up to my standards... especially since they went and changed things! :annoyed:

Also - when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli meet the Riders of Rohan - I LOVE that part in the book, and hence felt that in the film it was a bit of a disappointment. (No impressive speaches? :( )

I'd say I'm a mixture of Ringer and Tolkienite.. and perhaps also a bit Tolkienist (but only a bit really..)

I'm stuck in between Ringer and Tolkienoholic... maybe even Purist, but not so much. It's hard to pick one, because I can relate to so many of the choices.

Hmmm. I put Tolkienholic, but I'm really a mix of ringer, tolkienholic, purist, Tolkienist, Tolkienite.

I like both the books and movies, though the books are quite a bit closer to my heart. I do get upset at some parts where they deviated from the book (like Herenya, I really dislike the parts with Faramir and Riders of Rohan) I also study elvish (starting this summer!) I figured out the tengwar aphabet all by myself, and can write fluently in it. I am also obbssesed with middle earth. I love it.

I've always called myself a ringer, but according to your list, I'm a definite Tolkeinoholic.

I'm just a Ringer, though I was a Tolkienite before the movies came out. Also, at the height of LotR fandom, you could say I was verging on the Tolkienoholic.
