Name: Daetirion

Born: Towards the end of the Age of Trees (so slightly prior to FA)

Born at: Valinor

Lives: Mithlond

Race: Noldor

Appearance: Long black hair, fair skinned like most Noldor. Distinguished by a particularly angular face.

Attire: Varying from light leather armour to a full set of light, rather ornate cavalry armour (mithril cuirass and mailshirt). Ornate helm included but only worn on extremely formal occasions. Wears the 3rd’s uniform cloak (Grey/Blue reversible). Occasionally wearing civilian clothing, with a preference for light grey.

Weapons and Armour: Daetirion has (as stated above) a set of light leather armour for scouting and similar light patrols, as well as his regimental armour. He wields a custom made Glaive, Maegcrist, and keeps a number of long daggers and dirks for confined fighting/slight ranged ability. It should be noted that unusually for Elves, Dae couldn’t hit a Mumakil at ten paces with a bow, although he has some skill (or arguably luck) with thrown knives.

History: Trained during the siege of Angband, Daetirion quickly grew to prominence for his intuitive battle style, and outspokenness. Unfortunately this last attribute reasoned why he was sent to the front lines of the siege. During the final years of the siege Daetirion frequently reported the likelihood of a major offensive, and was named Watcher of Shadows (literal translation). Whilst his superiors thought he was merely paranoid, he was in actuality correct.

As it happens, Daetirion's new name stuck, and he was soon forced to take command of the remnants of an Elnaith Battalion fleeing the Dagor Braggolach. Somehow he managed to join the High King on his illfated venture to duel with Morgoth.

Retreating to Minas Tirith, the Ranagweth (Wandering Regiment) again had to flee following the offensive launched in the following year. Eventually they retreated to Nargothrond, where all were surprised (not least Daetirion) when he was allowed to keep his command.

Before long the Nirnaeth Arnodied is planned, and Daetirion once again led the Ranagweth into battle, joining the large Elnaith contingent snapping at the eastern flank. However, the regiment once again fled in tatters, attaching itself to the Gondolin contingent, and being (unwittingly) granted access to the Hidden City, following Daetirion gaining their gratitude for a series of fighting retreats and feints.

The regiment kept itself in fighting condition throughout the years, and at a mere 207 years of age, Daetirion follows the fighting retreat of Glorfindel from the Hidden City, safely transporting the refugees to the Havens. Here Daetirion finally recognises his longing for the sea, more therapeutic for a troubled soul having known nothing but war.

The War of Wrath allowed the Ranagweth there finest hour, just behind the spearhead of the wedge. The fighting was fierce, and the Elnaith following Orome fought honourably. However as the battle reached its fiercest, Morgoth unleashed the Balrog legions against the charge. As the mist cleared, Elven medics found Dae with an Orcish scmitar through his shoulder, his mount dead nearby. Clutched in his hand was the battle standard, the only one of the regiment left to claim it.

As Beleriand sunk beneath the waves, Daetirion moved to the new settlement of Mithlond, and was granted the right to form one of the 12 Elnaith regiments of the city. Interestingly, a Sindarin fosterling rescued from the sack of Doriath was given the coveted standard bearer position.

The 3rd flourished, through minor skirmishes, to harrying opportunities at the Dagorlad (Last Alliance). As the 4th age draws to a close, they are one of the few surviving Elnaith regiments, giving deference to the first Mithlond (Heavy Lance) and the 14th Lindon (Regular). In the meantime the 3rd have grown more skilled in their scouting and harrying roles, possibly to avoid similar scenes following the sack of Beleriand, the widespread slaughter still praying on Daetirion’s mind.

One problem currently is Daetirion's outspoken nature, often creating conflict between the high councils. Daetirion has thus far been content to remain below such exalted circles, although his judgement is sought often. He often blames this on an inability to sit for meetings, but those that know him tend to think it follows a fear of excessive responsibility. Mithlond all too easily forgets its saviours, and many times Daetirion has endured exile to please his superiors.

Ok that aint short, and certainly not grammatically correct, but its the convoluted story behind my avatar.
