AGH! I forgot about this one! >.< *facedesk* I'll start us off, and I'll add in a couple other guys as we go along..
_____________________________________________________________
Glancing out her bedroom window, Elwen sighed quietly, realizing it was almost time for the guests to start arriving. I swore after last year that I'd never do this again, yet here I am.. she thought, annoyed with herself. Last year's ball had been, in one word a total disaster, and now she was afraid that the same exact thing was going to happen this year. I shouldn't even have to make an appearance.. she thought, but as if on cue, there was a loud knock at her door.

"Elwen, open up! It's time to start getting ready!" the voice of her older sister Aranel called through the door, and Elwen stifled a groan.

"All right, it's open.." she called, turning away from the window.

The door opened and Aranel walked in, clad in a simple green dress, one with belled sleeves and an extra-long hem, so she had to lift it to walk without tripping. Seeing the look her sister gave the dress, she shook her head. "Yes, we have to wear dresses, you know that."

This time, Elwen did groan, before going over to a nearby wardrobe and rifling through it, looking for a suitable dress to wear. She finally found one, a simple one with a design similar to Aranel's, though in a shade of pale blue.

"Nice choice." Aranel offered, leaned up against the doorway as she was.

Ignoring her sister's approval, Elwen ducked behind a nearby changing screen and changed into the dress quickly. With that done, she then went over to her dresser, picked up a comb, then went in front of a large mirror and began brushing out her long, reddish hair.

"Don't forget to wear your circlet, El." Aranel said, still watching her sister's preparations.

"I won't.." Elwen murmured, braiding sections of her hair as she normally did once it was brushed out, before reaching for said circlet.

It was simple in design, silver and curly in design, almost exactly like the one that her brother Legolas had for formal occasions such as this. Putting it on and adjusting it in the mirror, she glanced towards Aranel, and realized for the first time that she also wore a circlet. Hers, however was made out of delicate gold leaves linked together, signifying her status as the second oldest of the royal siblings.

"Are you ready now?" Aranel asked, and after recieving a nod in response, turned and left the room, knowing Elwen would follow. And follow, she did, though considerably slower..she was dreading this ball greatly.

(Sorry about the length..you guys can just jump in however you feel is the best way..)

(I may as well double post, then..)

On the way down to the dining hall, Aranel and Elwen, quite literally, ran into Legolas and Aradan.

"Well..talk about color coordination.." Aranel murmured, glancing at her brothers. Aradan, dressed in the greens of a Captain of the Mirkwood army, matched Aranel perfectly, as suited twins. And Legolas, on the other hand, dressed in pale blues, matched Elwen, as suited the middle and youngest siblings.

"Unintentional coordination, you mean." Aradan offered with a shake of his head. "Only thing contrasting is El's h-"

"I know, my hair." Elwen broke in, folding her arms. She always had stuck out among her siblings, and considering they were all blond and she was redheaded, it was easy to see why..

"Nothing wrong with being different, though." Legolas said with a shrug, trying to ease Elwen's fraying nerves.

"Whatever you say.." Elwen murmured, shaking her head.

"Anyway, adar wants to see us, 'Nel." Aradan said, turning to his twin.

Aranel looked at him suspiciously, but merely nodded in response, and the two walked off together.

"Wonder what that's about.." Elwen murmured, looking after her older siblings.

"Who knows?" Legolas said in response, before saying, "Come on, let's go see who has arrived so far."

Elwen sighed and nodded a little in agreement, then walked after Legolas as they started towards the dining hall.

In the said dining hall, a few guests had already arrived and stood in pairs or small groups, the murmur of their voices rising to the vaulted ceiling. One in particular, a slender female elf with long silver hair, was looking intently interested in the rather one-sided conversation between her and a raven-haired elf lord who looked a touch self-absorbed. Her interest was feigned but skillfully feigned, and it seemed that as the elf lord bowed and departed, the elf was almost immediately accosted by another. She curtsied deferentially, her violet skirts fanning out gracefully, and politely pretended to be interested again.

As soon as the two siblings reached the dining hall, they knew they should not have made an appearance until later on..Elwen was immediately met by several elleths whom she had an 'acquaintance' with, while Legolas was forced into a conversation with some of his own 'acquaintances'.

The silverhaired elf was smiling and nodding at a young elf lord who appeared rather flattered by her attention and seemed to be making her lavish compliments. She laughed, a bell-like sound, at one of his comments and played with a lock of glimmering hair in a most becoming fashion. Those who knew her, however, would have been able to tell in a moment that she was desperately bored and her demure smile was starting to look a tad fixed - and the evening was only beginning.

Finally managing to slip away from the elleths, Elwen started to make a 'dash' for the dancing hall, but, in a heartbeat, found herself blocked by two equally tall ellons, both with dark hair.

"Where are you going, m'lady Elwen? Did you think you could avoid us?" the first one asked, with the hint of a smile playing across his features.

Elwen laughed softly at that. "Of course not, Thalion. And who is this?" she asked, indicating the other ellon.

"My younger brother, Callon." the one called Thalion responded. "Callon, Lady..or should I say..Princess Elwen."

Elwen gave Thalion a look that told him what she thought of titles, though she turned to Callon and smiled. "A pleasure to meet you, Callon."

Callon smiled briefly in return, inclining his head to Elwen. "The pleasure is mine, m'lady."

(Don't get any ideas by this, they're both available..:P)

After a few moments of talking with the two, Elwen soon began to grow bored again, then glanced around at all the other guests. "This may prove to be another boring evening.." she murmured, more to herself, though both Callon and Thalion heard her.

"Oh, perhaps not this time." Thalion said, almost matter-of-factly.

"Well, I hope you're right, mellon nin." Elwen said in response, shaking her head slightly.

"I hope I am, as well." Thalion said, also glancing about at all the other guests assembled so far.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find my siblings." Elwen finally said, managing to catch sight of Legolas.

"Of course." Thalion said, for himself and Callon, and the two split up once Elwen had walked off.

The silverhaired elf extricated herself from yet another encounter - they coudl hardly be called conversations when all that was done were exchanges of repetitive pleasantries. She turned to hurriedly go and nearly ran into a tall male elf (hehe, Thalion :D). Cursing inwardly, she immediately smiled apologetically and dropped a small curtsey. "Oh, dear - I apologise, my lord, I fear I was not looknig where I was going" - and prepared herself for another tiresome exchange.

"It's quite alright, m'lady." Thalion said courteously, inclining his head slightly. "I should have been watching what I was doing more closely." True enough, due to his height, he often ran into problems like this, and felt like reprimanding himself for letting it happen again. "No harm done, I'm certain?"

"No, indeed," replied she with a smile. "Though I thank you for your concern." There was a small pause, and with an inward sigh, she said politely, "I'm Meleth, incidentally."

"My concern was natural, especially since this incident was half my fault." Thalion said, then added, "I'm Thalion, and I'm pleased to meet you, m'lady."

"Naturally," said Meleth, and noticed out of the corner of her eye a youngmale elf entering the hall whom she remembered as particularly annoying. Averting her gaze, she hoped fervently he would not notice her, realizing this was not likely with her bright and attention-drawing curtain of silver hair. "I - er - I'm afraid I should really be going," she improvised hastily in Thalion's general direction, hoping to escape, one eye still on the elf she hoped to avoid.

"By all means." Thalion replied, inclining his head once again.
