"First, we need to figure out what exactly we're facing." Aradan broke in, ducking an arrow like his sister.

Meleth nodded and disappeared in a flash of silver. A short time later she dropped soundlessly to the ground from the branches of a large tree. "Quite a large force," she commented, brushing leaves from her hair. "Not going to be easy." She seemed more anxious now and kept glancing through the trees. "Any ideas?"

"Aiya.." Aradan muttered, shaking his head, and jumping as an arrow landed in the tree, perilously close to his face. "Nothing these days is ever easy.."

"If it were easy, we'd have beaten them by now," said Meleth grimly. "Like I said - any ideas?" She leaned against a tree and hastily stood up straight again as an arrow buried itself in the trunk. "There's always the old diversion tactic, or we could somehow imply that there are more of us than there really are."

"A diversion actually sounds like the best idea right now.." Aradan said, ducking away from the tree as several arrows embedded in it, where his head, chest, and neck had been seconds before.

"A quick one?" suggested Meleth. "We're all going to be impaled before long. Er - we should probably come up with some specific diversionary tactic first, and three of us will carry it out, and then the other one can go in and free Elwen." She ducked an arrow.

"Actually, I believe a change of plans are in order..Elwen isn't there." Aranel said, from high up in a tree.

Aradan looked up into the tree, and another arrow barely missed him. "What?"

"I said she's not there!"

Meleth blinked. "Did you see...anyone else?" she asked, trying not to sound anxious. "I mean, not an orc?"

"There's only orcs!" Aranel called, before hissing softly. Seconds later, she was out of the tree, jerking an arrow out of her shoulder.

"Are you sure?" said Meleth, and then she saw Aranel fall. "Are you all right?" She seemed very distracted now. "You're right, we need to get out of here."

"Yes, I'm sure." Aranel said through gritted teeth. "And that was a poisoned arrow, no I'm not alright."

"We definitely need to get out of here..back to the Palace." Aradan said after a moment's thought.

Meleth cursed colorfully under her breath in Sindarin. "All right, off we go!" she said angrily. "Curse those orcs! Must they poison every arrow they shoot?"
She hesitated for a moment. "You three go on ahead - I'll catch up in a minute."

Aradan and Aranel looked at each other for a split second, though, not wanting to argue, did as Meleth said, making sure Turwaithiel followed.

Meleth glanced after them and then disappeared, but the trees swayed a little more than usual around the orc camp. She dropped to the ground, chewing her bottom lip fiercely, and peered anxiously through the brush, shaking her head. "Where is the little troublemaker?" she whispered to herself, and swiftly caught up to the other three. She didn't mean Elwen.
"How far away is the palace, do you think?"
