Fredoc Brandybuck could not believe his eyes. One minute he had been playing Tig with his friends Otto and Wargo in the Old Forest behind Brandy Hall, then the next thing he knew he had run through some bushes into this cold, gleaming wasteland. He could see for ages, and frozen water scattered sunlight across his face. Taking a step, he yelped and drew back his bare foot again. Bare might be fine for the warmth of the Shire, but it was cold here. He took his ever handy kerchifs out of his pocket and wrapped them around his feet.
