"if i may speak first, we need to scout of the fortress, find its strengths and weaknesses. Then, based on this information, we launch a full scale attack. There are several ways to get this information. Obviously we can send scouts, but that will provide us with little practical information. What I suggest is that we make a test attack, not using our full strength, to assertain the best way to capture the fortress. I'm prepared to lead such an attack, if thats what we decide to do" He looked to Lithoniel for her opinion, as well as waiting for any of the others to voice an opinion.

"That is an ingeneous plan that deserves ample contemplation." Lithoniel said as she inclined her head to Darrell. "What are your opinions on it?" she asked the rest.
"Mine is," Arthion began "to question the practicality of such an assault. Should we risk more death than nesseccary? By making two attacks instead of one our number of casualties is garunteed to increase."
"That is to be contemplated as well, Cousin. Again I ask you, what are your opinions?" Lithoniel responded

"I do agree with Arthion, the death tol would rise, and i feer that is something we can not risk." Jaden answered.

"If the attack is well led and well thought out, there will be no greater loss of life than there would be if we threw our entire force into battle without vital information. With a small assualt we don't risk everything, and we can test the strength of the defence, how well the enemy are led, and what tactics they may employ to repel us. A force of 100 is easily enough to perform such an attack. Even if we lose all those, which we won't, we still have enough to conquer the fortress. I think the information that could be gathered from such a move will be invaluable"

"I confess, I agree with Darrell. Such an attack would yield valuable information. If there are no more objections, I think it would be wise for Darrell to be made captain of 100 men and lead the attack. What say you?" Lithoniel asked, Arthion shook his head but yielded and agreed with her.

"I say there is no price that can be put on life and that it is not something to just idly throw aside regardless of the benafits. I am sure that we could gather sufficient information by sending in scouts and loosing no men at all." Jaden spoke, sounding for the first time slightly emotional.

Jaden had learned through many wars that life was precious, in an instant it could be snuffed out with the turn of unfortunate events, there was nothing anyone could do to stop that. But in cases like theese it could be helped. It was only moraly sensable to take the safest rout.

Lithoniel gave Jaden a compassionate look "To understand the value of life is both a blessing and a burden Jaden Valdez, but have you considered that by this loss of life, many others may be saved? It is a difficult choice I know, and I am loathe to make it. But we must not think only of ourselves, the sooner these vile creatures are destroyed the sooner all can live in peace." She sat erect as she finished her speech, she watched Jaden's blue eyes for his reaction.

"I understand your view Jaden. But as far as i can see there is no way to gather the crucial information, other than to attack." A plan was already forming in Darrell's mind as to how he would get what was necessary out of an attack. "If there are no objections I will ready an go. Unless you want an outline of the attack I am planning."

"Captain Darrell, I believe we all would like to know what this attack would entail." Arthion replied a bit gruffly. Lithoniel nodded to Darrell to signal him to proceed.

Darrell glanced at Arthion "I have two ideas as to how I might gain the required information. The first is to attack the front of the fortress, with a ladder if possible, whilst sending a portion of the force around the back, with grapnels and ropes to scale the wall at the back. Once inside the fortress the aim is to get to the gate. I we can reach the gate we can see how well it is defended and how strong it is. Plus it lets us out of the fortress. The problem with that attack is it will alert whoever is in charge there that an attack from the back is possible, and the guards there will be doubled, making an attack there impractical. My second idea is to split the forces, half to each front corner of the fortress. From there the walls have to be scaled, and the aim, once again, is to get to the gate. In both cases the retreat back here will be covered accordingly" He looked to all the others for approval of one or other of his plans.
