"She died, I saw it" Fearan whispered quietly, though uncertainly. There as an image that played over and over in his head. In it he saw his mother die. It played over and over. He was sure she had died, or so he thought. A little voice in the back of his head kept muttereing. "She's not dead. You didn't see it. You're just fooling yourself." Fearan straitened. "Why did you not tell me off this sooner? He demanded.

Remaining silent, Meleth watched this with a worried air. Her black eyes flicked between the two very tensely - she seemed quite uncomfortable around Dernhelm. Though one could hardly blame her.

"Your mother asked me not too. But now, seeing as we are off to a most certain doom, i will."

"Why?" Fearan asked. "Why-is she is alive, why does she want to hide from me?"

"Because you were not old enough to know. But, since she is dieing she knows it and must tell you now."

"But you were?" Fearan asked. "She trusted you and not me? She must be alive, because that sounds like what she would do.

"Fearan.." Miriel said quietly. "You don't have any proof but his word and his word proved not to be trustful." She bit her lip and continued: "I know where you must have gone through...do you want to go through that again..?"

Fearan was fighting a battle in his mind. Was his mother alive? Or was she dead? He couldn't handle it. He whelled Rin around and kicked her hard. She lept into a gallope. He had learned to live with his mothers death, and he could keep on doing it.

Minuial sprang after them with very little urging from Meleth, who only glanced back once, silver hair flying behind her, and then no more. She willed herself to forget Dernhelm - that was past, and this was present.

"wait...Meleth, i'm sorry i deceived you...please take this as a token of my word that i shall fight for your company." He handed her something in a cloth as it was unravvellled it reavealed light mithril chain mail gloves. "they were my mothers...another elf. Please grant me this."

But Meleth was gone, and Dernhelm's words were lost to the wind.

She forced him out of her mind and concentrated on where they needed to go, keeping track unconsciously of Miriel and Fearan ahead of her.

Miriel laid a hand on Fearan's shoulder. "Perhaps we should wait for Meleth.. I don't know how fast she's able to ride. After all, she's still wounded." She deliberately said nothing about the conversation with Dernhelm. She didn't want to hurt or confuse Fearan even more.
