Luthien and the rest of the group waited as Meleth climbed on Lothwen's horse, then they all headed in a northwesterly(sp?) direction. It was late in the afternoon, so there was still plenty of time to put some leagues behind them before they had to make camp.

Ohh I have an idea that can include the tower AND the cave ... maybe we can sort of raid the Tower first cos we're soooo convinced that the Palantír is hidden in there ... but we discover that it actually isn't, but we sense that it's nearby so we figure that it's in the cave?]]

Haldir led them away from their camp and occasionally checked with Lothwen to make sure that Meleth was doing alright. "We need to recover this Palantír quick ... but where should we look first?" he wondered out loud as they rode through Angmar.

As Haldir looked over at her again, Meleth said testily, "I'm fine. It's not going to be lying about on the ground, we'd do best to look for a ruin." She seemed to be returning to her normal self, but was still rather pale and clutched Lothwen rather tightly, as though she were dizzy.

"Maybe it would be in a tower?" Lothwen suggested. "In fact, I'm pretty sure it is."

Haldir frowned at Meleth. "If you say so."

"That tower?" said Haldir, nodding at the high, dark tower ahead. "It does seem like the very place for such a powerful object to be ... I say we look there first. We must be very quiet though."

"Undoubtedly." Meleth took a deep breath, wincing at the pain. "It does seem rather obvious, though."

"I doubt the last owner would hide such a powerful object in anything less than a dark, mysterious tower." Luthien said as they drew closer to the ominous building, "It seems to fit, albeit slightly obvious."

Haldir nodded and looked around. "Be on your guard everyone, there could be Uruk-hai nearby. I think we should continue on foot from here." He hopped off his steed and straightened himself. "How is Meleth? Can she continue on foot or shall we bring only the smallest horse for her to settle upon?"

"You may speak to me directly, Haldir," said Meleth cuttingly. She shut her eyes for a moment. "I'm sorry. That was uncalled for. I don't know, I don't feel that walking would be a good course of action but a horse is overly cumbersome."

Haldir bowed. "Of course ... my apologies, m'lady."

"But it is only a single horse that we will be taking, and that is the one you are currently sitting upon," he said. "The others, we will send back. I don't feel that you are in any condition to walk either."

Meleth, tight-lipped, did not reply for a moment. "Yes, I suppose you're right," she said reluctantly. "Though it does irk me to do so." She looked uneasily at the tower, and then at the sun, which was sinking with rapidity into the west. "Let's continue, then."

"Very well." Luthien agreed, dismounting from her horse, "We shall continue!" The group left their horses in a safe spot and walked carefully towards the forbidding tower. A flock of crows flew overhead. "That is an ominous sign, my friends," said Luthien in a low voice. "The sooner we are inside, the better I should think."

"I don't feel like going inside" Miriel mumbled. "it's foolishness to enter a dark seemingly abandoned tower to look for such a powerful object. If the plantir is hidden in there, they might as well put signs on with 'plantir can be found in tower'. "
She followed the others while muttering these words, her eyes scanning the area carefully, her hand laid at the hilt of her sword.

Haldir thought about what Miriel said ... then he shook his head. "Maybe they'll think that it is so obvious that it isn't obvious at all," he said, trying to make sense. "But I know better." Then he crept forward to the opening of the tower, taking care to be really quiet.
