[BAck!]
"Stories, what type are you looking for Haldir? I know a few." Luth sat on a rock next to the fire, rubbing her pointed ears to warm them.

- i'll join! Looks like fun here , I sadly have to go but I'll introduce myself now -
Miriel crawled out of the tent with a sleepy face. "Did anyone mentioned Lembas?" Haldir handed her a piece of the Elven bread while mentioning the habbits of women and sleeping. "I was exhausted" Miriel apologised, she looked at the other man by the fire. "Mae Govannen Beriadan, it's a pleasure you joined us."

Beriadan smiled. "Pleased to meet you. I look forward to discovering the lost palantir with such an excellent group." He leaned back and pulled out a long pipe and some pipeweed, stretching his long legs out in front of him. "Anyone else care for a smoke?"

Haldir shrugged. "Any story would be fine for me, Luthien!" he said contentedly. "And I don't think I want a smoke, but thanks for the offer," he said coldly to Beriadan, glaring at the offensive pipe.

Beriadan shrugged and puffed contentedly, leaning back against a rock. "Suit yourself. I always say there's nothing better than some pipeweed when you're starting out on a journey."
Meleth smiled at him, though she did not share his liking for the hobbits' pipeweed. "You look very like a Dunadan, Beri," she said. "I'm glad you came."

"Hmm, a story, let me see." Thinking for a moment, Luth began to sing softly, "Gil-Galad was an Elven king..."

Haldir listened intently. "Gil-galad..." he muttered interestedly.

She continued, a far-away look in her eyes;
"Of him the harpers sadly sing,
the last whose realm was fair and free,
between the mountains and the sea.
His sword was long, his lance was kin,
his shining helm afar was seen.
The countless stars of heaven's fields
were mirrored in his silver shield.
But long ago he rode away,
and where he dweleth none can say,
for into darkness fell his star
in Mordor where the shadows are."

Haldir quickly wiped away a tear threatening to fall from his eye. "That was beautiful," he muttered, hiding his tears. He took out a piece of Lembas and busied himself with it.
Then he looked up. "Would you like to tell us another, Luthien? You tell them with such intensity."

Luthien smiled, "I am glad you enjoyed it Haldir. Though I must admit, it is better in our own language. Here, let me remember another. Would you care to hear of my namesake? I enjoy telling it very much."

Haldir nodded trying to hide his eagerness. "I'd love to hear it," he said in a dignified manner. He leaned back on a fallen tree and waited for Luthien to tell her story.

"Very well," Luthien drew her hood over her brown head and began:
"The leaves were long, the grass was green,
The hemlock-umbels tall and fair,
And in the glade a light was seen
Of stars in shadow shimmering.
Tinuviel was dancing there
To music of a pipe unseen,
And light of stars was in her hair,
And in her rainment glimmering..."

Haldir sighed. "That is beautiful as well," he said gazing intently at her. He flipped back a long blond strand of hair. "Too bad the others arent here to here these lovely tales. Are there any more that you can think of before I take a lie down?"

She grinned almost shyly at him, "I could finish this tale!
There Beren came from mountains cold!
And lost he wandered under leaves,
And where the Elven-river rolled
He walked alone and sorrowing.
He peered between the hemlock-leaves
And saw in wonder flowers of gold
Upon her mantle and her sleeves,
And her hair like shadow following."
She stopped, lost in thought for a moment, her blue eyes gazing upon the stars. "There is more, but I think it can be saved for another day."

Haldir gazed at the fire with a faraway look. "It brings back memories of the days back then ... many thousands of years ago ..." he said, not making any sense. "What a fair lady she must be," he said glancing at Luthien.
Then Haldir coughed and streched out underneath a shadowy Mallorn tree. "So tell me Luthien," he said conversationally. "Are you from these parts or a distant land?"

[We're in Angmar, right?]
Luthien focussed on her white hands as she answered, not able to look up. "Nay, I am not from around here. I was raised in Lorien for a time, then I lived in the Grey Havens, before finally residing in Rivendell for these last few hundred years."
