so I'm not very good with introductions and stuff :P but I'll try to write something before just starting. so this is a two people RP that me and smeagollum decided to do, mixing together in a same story our original characters: Lilith, which is mine, and Ruth Ann, which is smeagollum's. our original characters are already in two different fanfics we are writing:
The Diaries of Ruth Ann Underhill by smeagollum
and
Wish I Could Fly by me

so what about those two characters we wanted to write about?
Lilith: she's a relatively young hobbit. she's about Frodo's age. orphan of both her parents, she grew up with an old aunt of her, Berylla, who used to take care of Bilbo's house before dying, a few years before. so now Lilith lives by herself. she's a good friend of Rosie Cotton also. and well, I guess that other traits will come out going on with the story, so..
Ruth Ann: Ruth Ann Underhill is the out-of the Shire hobbit lass. Even after the death of her father, Ruth Ann could not live solely in the Shire. However, she was so bond to her friends in the Shire that she could not live without it. The mindset of Ruth Ann is that of overwhelming curiousity. In her words, "she lives for the next step further." Although, the war of the ring brings on a new test for Ruth Ann when her heart and love for her friens may intercept her love for adventure.

so, after this sort of introduction, here we go with the story. It is the evening of Bilbo's party.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So you think I’m alright?” Lilith tried to see her reflection in the window.
“Yes you are. You look great” Rosie guaranteed her. Lilith turned, making the dress rotate around her feet. “I simply love the colour”
“It’s beautiful”
“Your dress is lovely too, Rosie”
“Thanks. It’s not as new as yours, but it’ going to be fine I guess”
“Yes of course”.
“sSo what about starting to go? It’s almost seven o’ clock”
“Let’s go” Lilith said, linking arms with Rosie.
“Let’s go” Rosie laughted.

Lilith had never seen, in her whole life, the party field so decorated and full of light. So many hobbits crowded it. The more Lilith and Rosie get near to the field, the more the music and the voices became deafening.
“I don’t know how people can talk in there” Lilith almost shouted to Rosie.
“What?” Rosie asked
“Forget it!”. Lilith looked around in the crowd of curly heads to see if she recognized Merry, Pippin or Frodo, but she couldn’t see any of them.
“Who are you looking for?” Rosie asked her.
“The lads. Frodo, Merry, Pippin.” Lilith answered.
“Frodo is surely around. Merry and Pippin will be around too. Let’s go and get something to eat, I’m sure we’ll meet them.” Lilith nodded.
While going to the great tables were the food was placed, Lilith realized that a significant number of hobbits was there without invitation. She knew it, because she helped Frodo and Bilbo to write them. She smiled. That’s typical of hobbits she thought Gate-crashing at the biggest party of the Shire.
“Why are you smiling?” a voice made her rouse from her thoughts. She turned and see Frodo standing at her right. Rosie was gone, probably not far, taking some food.
“Oh mr. Frodo” Lilith said “I was just thinking”
"Thinking about something funny, I guess”
“Want to guess what?” Lilith defied him
“Is that a challenge?” Frodo asked her, with an ironic smile on his face.
“Maybe” Lilith replied
“While you think about that, come with me to get something to eat, I’m starving”
“If I know you enough..” continued Frodo “it was something about hobbits”
“You know me enough” Lilith smiled, while they walked through the crowd “go on”.
“Fine I think it was something about all the hobbits being here without an invitation”.
Lilith stopped and turned to look Frodo in the eyes “right, you’ve got it” she said.
He put a proud look on his face “Well stop reading my mind” Lilith said, starting to walk again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know it's quite long, but I've already written it earlier today :P
I hope it is ok....[/code]

Ruth Ann gave a deep sign as she skimmed through the party guests. She had been in the Shire just a few weeks prior, but she remained rather isolated. In all, she could not believe her eyes in the atmosphere of the party.

The top of her hair was pulled back while the bottom half dangled along her back. She had taken over two hours to get ready for this event, more than she had taken for anything in at least three years back.

Gliding along the ground, Ruth Ann formerly greeted everyone who offered her a drink to those who just wanted to say hi to every person who entered their 10 foot area.

"Hi," came a little voice behind her with a tug on her dress, "Who are you?"

Ruth Ann looked in back of her excepted to see either Frodo, Bilbo, or one of the Tooks who help her quite often. However, to her surprise, the only person behind her was a little girl.

"I'm.....Ruth Ann..." Ruth Ann introduced herself, unsure of what to say, "Who are you?"

"My name's Prisca," the little girl smiled and, after a moment, continued to speak, "You seem lost."

Gentlly laughing, trying to cover up the fact that she really was lost, Ruth Ann questioned back, "Why would you say that?"

"You're not doing anything," the little girl mentioned, "but may I ask you another question?"

Ruth Ann stood baffled at how inquisitive the young lass was and answered, "Sure."

"I've heard stories..." the girl explained, "about a girl hobbit who goes out of the Shire. Is that you?"

Ruth Ann sighly with a geniunely happy smile. She could only stand there in amazement that someone actually wanted to hear about her. Although, her moment of honor soon came to an end when a anxiety-filled mother came running up yelling, "Prisca!"

"There you are," the mother addressed Prisca, taking the young hobbit into her arms with a motherly hug.

"Mommy," Prisca said, trying to free herself from her mother's grasp, "This is Ruth Ann. I think she is the hobbit Mr. Bilbo talks about."

"Don't be silly, Prisca," the mother caringly instructed, "I don't need you to listen to any of that stuff Mr. Bilbo speaks of. It is none of our business." The mother stroked her daughter's hair and then realized that Ruth Ann was standing right next to them. "I am so sorry," her mother apologized.

"It really is no problem," Ruth Ann plasted a fake smile, trying with all of her energy to remain calm.

"I keep telling my daughter to stop thinking of the outside world," the mother laughed, addressing Ruth Ann "but they are just kids and need to have their fantasies."

Ruth Ann nodded her head, unable to comprehend what to say right before the mother explained to her daughter that there was no such thing as Ruth Ann.

Standing back up, the mother smiled to Ruth Ann, "I wish you a great party, and I really hope my daughter hasn't been of any inconvience to you."

"She hasn't been any," Ruth Ann assured the mother as the two of them walked off to another section of the party and Ruth Ann turned around to find an empty table to sit down at.

Lilith sat on a bench with a dish on her legs. "I was starving" she said to Frodo, as to justify the huge amount of food on her dish. He just smiled.

"I haven't seen Bilbo" Lilith said "I wanted to wish happy birthday to him"

"You'll see him. He's almost everywhere" Frodo said.

Lilith laughted "I guess so".

"Have you seen Gandalf?" Frodo asked her.

"No" Lilith answered "I know that he arrived yesterday, but I haven't seen him"

"Really? well you'll surely meet him as well later.."

Lilith nodded. She gave many hobbits she knew a nod, but she didn't really felt like standing up and joining them. "And Merry..and Pippin Took...are they here too, right?" she asked to Frodo.

"Yes of course" he said "I've seen them a few minutes before meeting you, and I could say they have something on their minds...."

"They've always something on their minds" Lilith commented, making Frodo laught. "Yes because.."she started to say, but then noticed that Frodo wasn't listening anymore. He was leaning himself out over the crowd, like he was looking for someone.

"Sorry Lilith, I have to say hi to a person. I'll see you later." he said.

Lilith nodded "of course" she said "see you later.."

"My dear!" came the overly loving voice behind Ruth Ann.

Before she knew it, Bilbo had her standing up and was inspecting such aspects as her dress size and such.

"I'm am perfectly fine," Ruth Ann findly assured Bilbo, annoyed, and gave him a little push out of her personal space.

"No you are not," Bilbo jolted back, "and the sad part is that you don't see it. For instance, look at that dress size. You haven't been eating? Have you?"

Ruth Ann paused for a moment, not wanting to answer the truth.

"That is just what I thought," Bilbo pointed his finger into the air and signaled her to show that he was right, "and that is what we must cover first."

Bilbo put his arm around Ruth Ann's shoulder and motioned her to the dining area.

"You know. I have always known those stepparents weren't right for you. They aren't feeding you. I can tell. What you need is a decent man who actually cares for you."

"I never see my stepparents Bilbo."

"That is just my point. You never see them because you never want to see them, but you have nothing to worry about. Uncle Bilbo will find someone perfect for you."

Bilbo continued to ramble on to Ruth Ann while greeting the guests who came by. Right before they arrived at the dining area, Ruth Ann finally suggested to Bilbo, "Why don't I just movie in with you? I practically live there anyway."

Bilbo stopped to think for a moment and then a light turned on in his head. "That could work," he said, "I'll go and see what Frodo thinks about it." Looking around, Bilbo spoke to himself, "Now, where is that boy?" right before he walked off in pursuit.

"Well, at least that conversation is over with for this trip," Ruth Ann spoke to herself and then helped herself to the smallest portion of food she could find.

Lilith was still sitting on the bench in the dining area. She was leaning out her neck, looking for someone she could talk with, until her eyes met Bilbo's shape in the distance. He was talking with a hobbit Lilith had seen sometimes around, but she didn't remember her name. Lilith stood up, deciding to join Bilbo. He said something to the other hobbit and the left her. Lilith reached him.

"Bilbo!" she said. The hobbit turned back and saw her.

"Oh Lilith my dear" he said "How are you?"

"I'm fine" Lilith smiled "I wanted to say happy birthday..."

"Oh thank you, thank you! What do you think of the party?" Bilbo started to walk again, making Lilith hasten to keep in step with him.

"It's great" she said "I've never seen such a party..."

"I'm glad you're having fun" Bilbo said.

"yes, but...where are we going?" Lilith asked, since Bilbo kept walking quickly through the crowd.

"oh yes, I'm looking for Frodo" Bilbo said, finally stopping "Have you seen him?"

"A few minutes ago, he talked to me in the dining area and then saw someone he had to say hi to..." Lilith said. "He went that direction..."she added, pointing a place in the middle of the party field.

"Oh well I'll look for him there, then.."Bilbo said. "I'll see you later Lilith"

"yes" she said, watching him go. That was weird. she thought. Her considerations were soon interrupted by two voices she knew well.

"Lilith you're here!" Lilith raised her head "Meriadoc and Pippin" she said smiling "I've been looking for you"

"No!" Pippin said "We were looking for you!"

"well, we met" Lilith said "that's the important thing"

"we have an idea" Merry said, with a clever smile on his face "come with us and we'll tell you..."

(I am not thinking Ruth Ann will be able to do much right now, until the firework sets off.)

(oh, ok..I'll go on a little bit then...)

"Where are we going?" Lilith whispered to Merry, who was dragging her through the crowd of hobbits.

"You'll see" he said "Over there, Pip!"

Lilith followed them on the back of a tent. "You know what that is?" Merry said, barely containing his excitement, pointing something that looked like an old cart to Lilith.

"A cart...?" answered her.

"Not just any cart" Pippin said "It's Gandalf's"

"And what about it?" Lilith asked confused.

"It means..."Merry said patiently, as he was explaining something very simple to a children "...fireworks!" He lifted the sheet that covered the back of the cart.

"No" Lilith said, understanding what they had in their minds "No you can't..."

"Yes we can!" Merry said, jumping on the cart "You tell us if someone's coming..."

"Fine, but be quick!" Lilith said, watching nervously around. She heard Merry and Pippin discussing about something, then she saw then running next to her, with a huge firework in Pippin's hands.

"Come!" he said to Lilith, but she didn't move. "I prefer to watch from here" she justified herself, watching them go into a tent.

(I think you can write about the dragon-firework from here, is that ok?)

Ruth Ann had finished about half of her plate of food, and she was already starting to struggle eating the rest. Slowly cutting into the meat for her next bite, Ruth Ann's ear caught hold of some strange noise.

She lowered her fork and turned her head around to where the noise was coming from. By the time she turned her head, the partyfield was already filled with screams of terror as a dragon rose forth and spread his wings.

Ruth Ann smiled. Her eyes focused on the dragon and her mind wandering away from hobbiton, Ruth Ann grabbed the nearest knife and climbed on top of the table with the mindset of victory.

Sqoosh. The knife pierced into the belly of the dragon and ran through as the dragon flew off into the distance and exploded. Ruth Ann's eyes caught sight of this marvel for a moment, but she then proceeded to look at her knife with a heavy heart. She missed fighting. She missed having to risk death in order to fight for something greater than yourself. The world has been quite peaceful for some time, and hopefully, in Ruth Ann's mind, that would change.

As a big dragon rose from the tent where Merry and Pippin went, Lilith bent down with all the other hobbits in the field, quite frightened. She had never seen a dragon in her whole life, she just heard about them in Bilbo's tales, and...Why the dragon came out of the tent where Merry and Pippin where? Millions of thoughts crowded Lilith's mind, while the dragon flight over the heads of the hobbits.

And then she noticed that one of the hobbits wasn't bending down on the ground, screaming and taking cover. It was the hobbit she saw talking with Bilbo previously at the party. She stood on a table, with a knife in her hand, and when the dragon passed upon her, the knife ran through his stomach. Lilith couldn't help but opening her eyes wide. The dragon kept flying for a while, then exploded in a big, red firework over the hills.

As the hobbits realized that the dragon wasn't real, a big "Oooooh" of amazement spread in the field.

Lilith, her heart still beating strongly for the fright, stood up, having her eye on the only hobbit who faced the dragon. In the throng around her, she noticed Frodo, and grabbed his arm. "Frodo" she gasped.

"Lilith! Are you alright? It was a firework..." he started to explain.

"Yes I know" she said "But who was that hobbit that..."

"Ruth Ann you mean" Frodo said with an ironic smile on his face "I'm going to talk to her. You're coming?"

Lilith nodded, following Frodo through the crowd, curious to meet this Ruth Ann.

Ruth Ann remained standing on the table, looking at her knife until she realized that the firework was over and she stuck out of the crowd like a sore thumb. Getting down off of the table, Ruth Ann put the knife on the table and straightened out her dress.

"Just can't seem to stay in the Shire for one night? Can you, Ruth?" Frodo asked her, as he slowly strolled nearby with Lilith.

Ruth Ann couldn't speak, but only looked down on the ground. She could not possibly explain to Frodo how much she wanted that to be a real dragon.

"It's alright," Frodo gave her a hug, "Knowing you, you are going to be fighting again anytime soon."

Ruth Ann smiled happily, Frodo and Bilbo were the only ones who ever seemed to understand how she was feeling, and Bilbo was even debateable at times.

"Oh I forgot!" Frodo exclaimed, slightly embarrased, "Ruth Ann, this is Lilith, and Lilith, this is Ruth Ann."

Lilith held out her hand to Ruth Ann with shyness. She usually wasn't a timid hobbit, but Ruth Ann inspired her some kind of respect, and maybe awe.

"Nice to meet you Ruth Ann" she whispered, slightly smiling.

"I can't believe you two didn't know each other before today!" Frodo exclaimed "Since you're both friends of me and Bilbo..."

"It's weird, yes..." Lilith agreed, trying to understand what Ruth Ann was thinking, but the look in her eyes was impenetrable.

(kind of short I know..:P)

(That's perfectly fine. I am believing they are going to be a little shorter now because there is actual conversation.)

Ruth Ann recieved and gave back the handshake, but she did not want to speak. She hadn't met Lilith before, and typically when she begins talking with any new person they lose respect for her the first few sentence. She has learned over the years that most of the time it is better just to be quiet.

"You really aren't going to talk, are you?" Frodol asked to have Ruth Ann shake her head no.

Sighing, Frodo tried to persuade her to speak, "Lilith isn't like the other hobbits, Ruth, she doesn't think Bilbo and I are too weird." He then stopped for a moment and turned to Lilith to make sure she agreed.

Lilith laughted, feeling her embarassment vanish. Frodo just mentioned her favourite topic, him and Bilbo.

"No I don't think him and Bilbo are too weird" she agreed, addressing to Ruth Ann a sort of knowing smile on her face. Lilith had never seen such a quiet hobbit. She was used to outgoing and sociable hobbits, who can never care about their own business, but were always looking for the newer gossips. Ruth Ann was different from all the others. Lilith was sure that the hobbit was out of the ordinary.

Frodo smiled too, then he looked at Ruth Ann, looking for some other topic to talk about. "Lilith was the niece of Berylla Bolger, who used to take care of Bag End a few years ago, Ruth Ann, I'm sure you remember her...".

Ruth Ann remained in thought for a little while and then perked up a smile. "Oh yes, I remember her. I saw her once. I had returned home from an expectionally hard trip and walked in except either you or Bilbo, only to be suddenly surprised."

"That was an amazing day," Ruth Ann continued, "trying everything to explain to her why I barged in, in her words, and trying to get her not to send me to the orphanage, but, after that, she was very nice I do recall."

EDIT:
(I am thinking about naming this "The Head and the Heart". How does that sound to you?)

Lilith laughted at Ruth Ann's story. "Yes she was very nice" she agreed "I spent beautiful years with her. But most of all, I loved when I was younger and she had some work to do at Bag End, so she took me with her and left me and Frodo here, who was a young hobbit too, listening the whole afternoon to Bilbo's tales. That was the best. The days I waited for all the time. And then Berylla would come and tell me it was time to go, and she would take me home and I wouldn't stop telling her all the stories Bilbo told me and...oh.."Lilith blushed "I'm digressing, I'm sorry" she said.

(edit. about the title, I like it!! I'll go edit the first post ;))

"It's perfectly fine," Ruth Ann explained to Lilith, "I really do enjoy just listening to other people. I find you can understand a lot about someone based solely on how they speak about circumstances."

"And you can also understand a lot about someone about how much food they eat," Bilbo continued, jutting into the conversation between the three hobbits. He then stopped to look at Ruth Ann, who was happy to be getting this conversation over with also as he glanced over at the snickering Frodo who was trying with every once of strength he had to show compassionate for Ruth Ann.

"Have you eaten yet today?" Bilbo finally asked Ruth Ann.

"Yes," Ruth Ann confidentally told the truth.

"How much? One, two, three meals?"

"Two so far," Ruth Ann's voice faded away as she reluctantly told Bilbo exactly what he wanted to hear.

Shaking his head, Bilbo did not mention anything, but motioned for some plates full of food to come their way.
