Marylyn removed her hand from her sword, however it lingered nearby. With slow movements she stepped closer to the man, holding her hand out in welcome. She hoped to soothe him, calm him. Marylyn waited patiently on the mans answer to Nessa's question.

He scowled. "That is none of your business." his voice was deep, gravelly. "Why did you attack me?" his swords put away, he crossed his strong arms over the wide expanse of his chest.

"I asked you a question." his voice was menacing, low. "Why. Did. You. Attack me." it demanded a response. His tone alone had made many cower when he used it in that way.

"Why should we answer your question when you will not answer ours?" Marylyn took in the mans defensive stance. "Were you spying on us?" She asked, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. She wondered what the stranger was desperate to keep hidden. "Why were you hiding in the bushes?"

"If I had been spying, you wouldn't have found me." his frame seemed to grow taller. "Now why did you attack me?" his voice was dangerously low now, and his expression dark as he stepped toward her. "I will not ask again."

Nessa worked up a response, her heart pounding in her chest. "Anyone who has been in my situation is suspicious of people like you." she answered, cautiously.

"Why wouldn't we attack? Each of us announced our presence and yet you remained hidden, skulking in the shadows." Marylyn answered coolly. "Now, if you were not spying, what exactly were you doing?" Marylyn raised her brows.

Nessa appriciated her companions' support. Her actions had been a bit rash,but only because of the fear that had been her constant companion since the village fire. She trusted no one.

"I do not answer to you." he replied with a maddening calmness. Without another word, he turned, intending in leaving them.

"Hold it!" Marylyn reached out and grasped his shoulder. "Where's your sense of common courtesy? We have answered all your questions. It is your turn to answer ours!" Marylyn spoke sharply.

He jerked from her grasp as though burned. He whirled. "I have no reason to answer you." he snarled, "Courtesy is not a prevalent thing out here in the wild. And again, I do not answer to you." he stared her down, tense, his eyes blazing.

"Well, you may not answer to us, but you should know there are three of us. I am heavily armed.I know not what my companions have in way of weapons." Nessa's eyes burned with anger. "You WILL answer our questions." Nessa meant what she said. She was even thinking of the rope in her pack. She hated when people stared others down, she really did.
