Gaelrin felt her breath get caught in her throat and began to feel her heart beating faster as she and Kano locked eyes. As she looked into his eyes, she thought she saw what looked like sorrow and regret, but also something else. Kindness.
As he rode up next to her, she felt herself blush, but took a breath in an effort to clear her head.
"I'm glad that we were able to make it back to Edoras safely."

"Yes, I am most thankful as well," Kano agreed. He glanced over to Gaelrin and noticed what he thought a flush in her cheeks. Was she... his thoughts forced a furrowed but he sent it away quickly.

They came to a pause at the camp's edge and Kano dismounted Sage. "Would you like help down?" He asked Gaelrin, offering her an extended hand.

Once they reached the campsite, Gaelrin carefully lifted her leg over Sandy then nodded and took Kanos' hand and carefully slid down until her feet touched the earth.
She cringed as a dull pain crept up her legs as they walked to the fire pit that her brother had started.
"What are you doing off Sandy, Gaelrin? Doesn't it hurt?"
The boy said.
Gaelrin smiled and nodded.
"Of course it hurts...but I don't want to let that stop me from the simple pleasures of walking."
"Whatever you say..."
He muttered. He then looked at Kano and took notice of him holding his sisters hand. He rolled his eyes and crunched his nose in a expression of disgust before poking the fire with a stick.
Gaelrin noticed her brothers gaze and quickly withdrew her hand, but she sat down and began to chop some vegetables.

(I might hold off posting for a bit and PM Hanasian to be sure we don't leave him too far behind)

Kano helped Gaelrin to the campfire and then took a seat beside her after she sat. He took note of her brother's reaction but acted as though he had seen nothing. "Is there anything I can do to help?" He asked.

(OOC: My apologies.... my RP muse must have taken a bit of a vacation. Been enjoying your writing! But worry not, I'm back in!)

With Athilda being called to duty, it wasn't long before Dunhama found himself called forth. The new riders were all called together by a gruff old rider and were escorted out to the stables. He said,

"So you are the lot that got impressed into service in Helms Deep. I wasn't there but I heard the fighting was hard. I guess I was glad to be holed up near Dunharrow. Anyway, you recruits will be cleaning the stables. There is much to do, and if you want to make the celebration tonight, you best get busy."

He left after tagging a couple of them to oversee the work. Dunhama sighed and got to cleaning right away. Nothing would keep him away from the celebrations and seeing Athilda again. He had no idea what to do or how to plan to get married. Still, he trusted it would all be well.

Grihias stared at the fire and watched it start to burn the stick he had. Silently grumbling at his sister, he couldn't say that inside he was proud of her working hard at riding and walking. He looked suspiciously at Kano again, and pulled the stick out and watched the small flame burn out into a trail of smoke. He started moving it about watching the smoke pattern. He then said out loud,

"Do you think that old guy that talks to the king is a wizard?"

He watched the smoke from the ember on the end of his stickfade and stuck it back into the fire.

Kano looked over at Grihias as he asked his question. He didn't answer immediately, instead looking to Gaelrin to answer her brother's question.

(Welcome back, Hanasian! :) No need to apologize, we're just glad to hear from you!)

As she worked, Athilda found her mind on the very near future and was often seen with a huge smile on her face. She thought of Dunhama and his upstanding character and kindness and her mind also wandered to his handsomeness and ruggedness. She sighed and continued on in her work, for she wanted everything to be in it's place and ready so that they could be wed sooner rather than later.
After she finished her work, the Lady Eowyn approached her with a white dress that was simply embellished with golden thread and amber stones all along the circle neckline. Her eyes filled with tears and she curtsied deeply. The Lady gently took her by the arm and wiped her tears away then bid her to her chamber to try it on. It was a perfect fit. Lady Eowyn then gave her a simple golden band and urged her to keep it, until she met Dunhama down the aisle.
Oh what joy Athilda felt! She would marry the man of her dreams and they would start anew, together. Athilda thanked the kindness and graciousness of the Lady who then brought in her maids and then they began to make plans and preparations for the wedding.
------------------------------------------
Gaelrin looked up at her brother and shrugged.
"I'm not sure...but I suppose that he might be. Why else would he have such a distinguishable staff?"
She then turned to Kano and smiled.
"Of course! You can chop these vegetables and put them in this pot. It's not much, but it will make for a hearty stew."

Kano took the vegitables and began cutting. Adding to Gaelrin's comment said, "The man in white also had a very distiguished pressence. He wasn't in command but no one commanded him either. I've never seen a wizard before but that sounds like what I would expect them to be."

Gaelrin turned and listened to Kano as she finished chopping the vegetables. She nodded in agreement, then stopped her hand and looked at her brother.
"See?Maybe you could go talk to him about the adventures he has been on. I'm sure he wouldn't-"
"Oh, come on! He wouldn't ever want to talk to a kid!"
Gaelrin rolled her eyes then shrugged.
"Alright, alright. It was only a suggestion."
She said as she swiped the chopped vegetables into the black pot.
"What about you, Kano? What do you think of the strangers?"

Kano shrugged. "I'm not sure... I'm very glad for their help in the battle. That much I can say. I don't know them elsewise. They seem well travled men, so I doubt they will stay long. That's a shame, I feel. I think many here could learn much from them, myself included."

"Yes, they do seem to be rather focused on something bigger than what happened..." Gaelrin agreed quietly. Her thoughts led her back to the attack on their journey to Helm's Deep and the sorrow began to fill her eyes with new tears.

Grihias listened to Gaelrin and Kano talk of the strange travelers, and played with his stick in the fire. He listened closely to his sister's voice, and he smirked at the tone in her voice. She liked Kano, kinda like the way he saw Lady Eowyn react when the Dunedain leader's name was mentioned after the battle of Helm's Deep. He considered it mushy and odd, but his sister had started to consider other things besides the games they used to play and riding Sandy. He considered saying something to embarrass her, but he could hear her voice start to break and her eyes wet again, so he didn't. He shook his head and tossed the remaining part of his stick into the fire and watched it burst into flame. He then stood up, and looked at Gaelrin as he walked by her and Kano and said,

"I think I'll go find Dunhama."

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Dunhama sweated as he finished the royal stalls, and as the horses of the royal house came in, he fed them and watered them. He went to the well and saw a young mother there with her child. Dunhama came and drew up the bucket for her as she wrestled the squirming, fussing child. Dunhama took his cup and filled it and handed it to her. She took it from his hand and looked at him. She sipped the water, then took some in her fingers and gave it to her child. She broke a faint smile and said,

"Thank you kind sir."

She looked at Dunhama closely and said,

"You were one who help me when we were attacked by orcs on the wat to Helm's Deep. Your friend... Athilda tended me and cared for my baby. Where is she, for I would like to properly thank her."

Dunhama cleared his throat and looked to the palace. He said,

"She is a great healer and comforter, and works for Lady Eowyn. I believe she is in the Palace getting things ready for the celebration of victory. I am sure she would like too see you."

The woman curtsied slightly and turned and walked away. Dunhama watched her as she went to the camps. Dunhama looked again to the palace. He wanted to see Lady Athilda again, but he saw his new commander walking toward him. Dunhama took a drink of the remaining water in the cup and sighed, expecting new duties to be assigned. But he paused and Marshal Eomer met him. They said a few words to each other, then looked at Dunhama. When Eomer left, his commander approached him and said,

"Dunhama of the Breach, you have done enough for today, and the Victory celebration will commence soon. Go get cleaned up, and put your best uniform on."

Dunhama nodded. He only had the one uniform. He would go and make himself as presentable as he could. He took a breath and relaxed, for having the rest of this long day off was a relief. He drew more water from the well to wash up when Grihias came up to him.

"Grihias, it is good to see you! Where is your sister?"

"She is back by our campfire talking.. talking to Kano. I got bored so I took a walk."

Grihias said, kicking at the dirt. Dunhama smiled. He said,

"Yes... well, I'm sure they will find their way to the Victory celebration. You will be there as well, for you both are a wards of the King. Come with me, we will get cleaned up and get ready."

They set off with a bucket of water to the old quarters where Dunhama had lived what seemed like a lifetime ago, even if it was only less than a fortnight.

Kano glanced back to Gaelrin, his face mimicking her sadness in a note of empathy. He sighed heavily after Grihias left and looked back to Gaelrin. "I suspect the troubles of the travelers are worries beyond our boarders. Don't bother your mind with them. You have enough to deal with." He looked back into the fire for a moment then added. "Perhaps I could move my tent over here beside yours. That way if you need help with anything you won't have to look far."

Athilda had been preparing for the festivities and the ceremony so much so that she had nearly forgotten to eat, so when the other maids set off to their tasks, she made her way to the kitchen. As she walked down the halls towards the kitchen, she thought she glimpsed Dunhama and Grihias. Her heart filled with joy and she smiled broadly as she called out his name.
"Dunhama?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gaelrin sniffed and wiped the tears away with her sleeve; when she had calmed down she looked up at Kano and smiled.
"Yes, I...I would like that very much. Thank you."
She said sincerely.

Kano nodded and gave a smile. He gazed into the fire for a long moment before glancing back over to Gaelrin. "Forgive me if it seems forward of me... but you are a fair young women, Gaelrin. You'r brother is strong and though the two of you have lost much I would implore you to look to your future. It will not always be this bleak. The pain will..." he trailed off and gazed at the fire once more. "It will glaze over and be swept aside in time by fresh memories of happier things. It will always be there but not like this. Grieve now, but don't linger. You have too much of life ahead of you to linger on sorrows of the past."

He reached over and lay a hand on her shoulder, giving an encouraging look.

Gaelrin kept her gaze on Kano as he stared intensely into the fire but lowered her eyes as she realized that he was deep in thought. She took in a deep breath and rested her hands in her lap as her own thoughts led her to her sorrow. Kano's voice shattered her thoughts, and when she looked up at him, all she saw was kindness and sincerety.
"Thank you....for your kind words, Kano."
A small smile reached her eyes as she spoke and she even felt her cheeks begin to redden slightly, so she looked down at her hands again.
"I-I know that better days are to come, and I am sure that with...you-I-I mean...I'm sure that everything will be better once everyone settles down again."
