Arlaith's gaze did not move from the sky. A wonderment of the beauty and dazzling majesty of the stars above had taken her; as it had every member of her court. Standing there in the center of the grounds, a little way away from her people, the Starlight queen looked like a star herself; the moonlight and starlight shone on her silver gown, making it look as if the cloth was woven from the stars themselves. Her long, silvery hair was caught with a bright glow, and the gem at her brow seemed alight with a strange fire.
Suddenly, she opened her mouth and a strange song flowed from her lips. She lifted her arms skywards and closed her eyes.
"Oh midnight star, I called upon thee in the darkest hour Oh lights above this everlasting earth, Hear me as I surrender my thoughts, my being to your beauty. What is mine in crown's rights Shall never be reached, I am lost. Stars above, hear me. For we are lost."
It was a beautiful song, filled with pain, and memory. Every night Arlaith came here with her people, and the more did she rejoice and despair. Estra listened, icy blue eyes still turned skywards, her concentration on the stars, and her queen's song all she could hear.

Luce heard her queen's words, and it sent her head spinning. What if the stars could somehow help them get back to them? What if they could be found again?
A frustrated sigh escaped Luce's lips. The star people had all this knowledge. They had all this power. Why was it that they could not find away out of here to the stars?! Was there something they had over looked? Her eyes searched the sky as if the answer could be found there. Finding nothing, they sank back down to the ground in despair. She longed to fly, but felt very trapped on the ground.

As Arlaith's song ended, Estra's gaze slowly dragged itself from the glittering stars. What perfect misery this was, to walk thus every night out here to the same spot to watch the same stars; yet never reach them, no matter how dear they were.
Yet she did not show her sadness; she was too well-trained a courtier and a knight to betray any emotion.
"You may now all take some mulled wine and refreshments," Arlaith's voice was softly sent forth into the cold night air. "Here we shall stay for the remainder of the night."

Lyvanna's head sagged as her queen's song began. A tugging, tearing feeling tormented her heart, and at last she looked up at the stars with large, luminous, sorrowful eyes. Even as the song ended, her eyes did not stray from the glittering orbs above. What sweet misery this was... what beautiful, torturous longing... if only it would come to an end some day.
She remained fixed, still as a statue carved from a block of ice. Everything around her faded more and more, and only the stars remained in focus.

Estra swiftly turned her gaze from the sky. The movement was swift and elegant; it did not look at all as if it was causing her pain, as it was. Sharp grief burned inside of her. Yet she did not show it. She strode over to the icy table and took a glass of mulled wine. She sipped the warm, spicy liquid to soothe the chill inside her.
Ravion looked at the starpeople curiously. Whereas in the great hall they had seemed cheerful and merry, they now all seemed miserable. Why did they do this to themselves every night? It was like a kind of torture. Estra, the queen's knight, seemed to be the only one who was taking this all well; casually pouring herself mulled wine.
