"Oh, I'd really like to join you on your way home." Julie replied, smiling back gladly at Christine. In fact, she had been a little surprised to be treated so warmly and kindly, the last few days hardly any people even took notice of her, or that was what Julie thought. However, she returned back to the topic, speaking "For how long haven't you been at your house if you're not sure whether your family has left it or not?" She asked, out of plain curiosity. Then she remembered something. "My name is Julie, by the way.", and she streched out her hand to shake hands with Christine.

She returned the smile, "Oh, wonderful. I would very much enjoy some company."

Christine ducked under some hanging laundry that was stretched across the street before taking the offered hand, "I am Christine. It's a pleasure to meet you, Julie. And it has been quite a few years since I have been home, but father was always very attached to this house, so I am guessing there should be at least some servants to send word to he and my mother."

Julie took Christine's hand gladly and shook it, feeling relieved to at last have found someone to talk to. She generally wasn't very open for new acquaintances, but this time, she felt that was she needed. "All on my side, Christine." She replied, and went on. "And well, I'm sure around the house then. How come that you haven't been there in some years?" She asked curiously, if not too forwardly.

(yeah, I’m still here. I guess I’ll bring in Cutler’s father while I'm waiting… :P)

Lord Beckett (senior) strode across the brown cobble-stones and toward the Beckett mansion, which was just across the street from the stables where the Becketts kept their large carriages, pure-bred horses and other town vehicles. He had just dropped his favorite horse off with the livery boy and now he was heading home to be greeted by his wife and son and relax after a long day of working. He looked up from his thoughts and noticed somebody standing at the door. Anthony was wondering who this stranger was until he got a little nearer. ‘ah,’ he thought to himself as he recognized his long-time friend, Lord Bellings. He wondered how he had missed the carriage with it’s brilliantly white horses, snuffling and stamping in their harnesses. “Good afternoon,” he walked up to his friend, his hand outstretched.

(gah, I'm not good with making up names on the spot... lol but hopefully this works, Ara...)

"It's quite a long story, and I do not wish to tell it now." She said in an apologetic manner, but she was ready to put the past far behind her and was sprinting towards the future without looking back.

"Ah, here we are!" She said, grinning. In front of them stood a large house on a hill. Christine took off at a run down the lane that led to it, which was surrounded by shrubs, though they were not in bloom. She knocked on the door, hardly unable to control her bouncing. A balding red headed man opened the door, his brown eyes opened wide, stunned. Christine squealed and threw herself into his arms, crying, "Father!"

(Oh goodness guys, I'm sooooo sorry for not posting sooner. You know how RL gets :()

James nodded in response to Cutler. "Yes yes, of course. I understand." He looked at Charlotte who appeared to be slowly backing away from a ragged man with a discusted and scared look on her face. He caught hold of her arm and gently pulled her close to his side, putting a protective arm around her. He looked at all the stalls and street twists, searching for the way they came. "One second, I think we have been turned around. Which way is it to the river?"

"Alright." Julie answered Christine, smiling sweetly. As she just wanted to go on, she looked up when Christine mentioned that they finally had reached her family house. She looked up to the large, magnificent building, thinking, what a rich family Christine had to have.
Julie followed her newfound friend towards the house, staying a little behind although, to give her time to reunite with her family. She smiled brightly at the meeting between father and daughter, even although she had no idea about the family history, it made her happy.

(that's ok, Lothy dear. ;))

Cutler's ears and spirits perked up slightly as he heard James talking to Charlotte and mentioning the possibility of them being lost too. He wasn't sure why this might perk him up, but it made him feel a little less lost himself. However, he quickly dashed his own hopes and figured that soon Master Norrington would get his bearings again and be off. He cursed his pride for not wanting their help. Why was he being stubborn like this? oh, yes, because he didn't really want Master Norrington to see his mother when he came home or, here he mentially gulped, his father. Actually, the more he thought about it the less he even really wanted to go home now. He forlornly glanced around the market place, suddenly he noticed a man walking towards him. For some reason this man looked familiar. Like someone he had seen his father with at some point. He waited, regaining his composure, for the smartly dressed man to come up to him.

Lord Bellings flashed a toothy grin at his long time friend and took Anthony's hand as the two engaged in a handshake. "Wonderful to see you, my friend," he said, bowing his head in respect. "I believe we have some urgent business to discuss regarding some promotions?" He turned as the door was opened by the Beckett's servant.

-

Elaine stood quickly as she heard the voice of Lord Bellings and her husband echoing in the grand foyer and stood in the doorframe. She clutched the letter from Cutler's teacher close, waiting until her husband was settled in to give it to him.

-----------

Mr. Cantrell closed the distance between himself and Cutler and looked at the boy with concern. "Cutler Beckett? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at home getting ready for bed?" He asked, almost dropping the bundle he carried in his shock at seeing the boy in a place like this.

"Likewise," Anthony smiled back at his friend, "urgent business? Like what, my friend?" he asked as they entered and the servant took their coats away. Secretly, Lord Beckett (senior) had a hunch what his long time friend was going to say. He also couldn't wait to praise up the success of his own son in school. He always had a way of jumping on that subject whenever he could. He knew that Lord Bellings' two sons weren't half as good as his own Cutler in school. He grinned proudly to himself. 'Just like a Beckett,' he thought, 'always the best.' Out of the corner of his eye, Anthony noticed his wife. He smiled at her before turning back to his friend.

____________

"Um, no," Cutler answered, still wondering who this man was. He knew he must be some acquaintance to his father but he couldn't quite place him. That seemed to be common today. "I'm perfectly fine here. I was," Cutler tried to think of a good excuse, "running... some errands for... mother." He knew it sounded stupid the second it was out of his mouth, but it was too late to take it back now.

Christine was red with exicitement, so much so that is was hard to distinguish the freckles on her cheeks and nose. "Father, I have someone you need to meet. She's a friend, we've only just met, but she needs a place to stay." She turned to the man and pouted prettily until he laughed and shook his head, "I could deny you nothing today. Of course your friend may stay, if she wishes."

"Oh, thank you very much, Christine, I... I wouldn't have dared to ask!" Julie spoke, blushing a little. She didn't think that Chrisitne would do so much for her. "And thank you as well, my lord." She as well said to Christine's father, not sure if she had adressed him correctly, she hoped she had.

[[Ha ha, PD that's brilliant! 'always the best' ]]

Lord Bellings tilted his head and let out a chuckle. "Well, come along - show me to your study and we shall start discussing." He glanced over at Elaine who was still standing in the doorway looking troubled. "Hello, Mrs. Beckett. Lovely to see you." He nodded respectfully at her.

Elaine swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded back before looking over at her own husband. "Anthony, there is something important I need to speak with you about... it's Cutler." She held out the paper sent home from his school teachers and chewed on her bottom lip.

-----------

Running errands? In this section of town? Mr. Cantrell scrunched his brow and looked at the child thougthfully. "Say, Cutler... do you think your parents would be okay with you staying at my house tonight? It's getting dark and you look a bit lost..." He knew the boy was lying; he'd gotten quite good at being able to tell with having his own teenagers at hiome.

(hehe, glad you like it, Ara. :P)

Anthony stood, waiting for his friend's salutations to his wife to end. He furrowed his brow as Elaine stopped them just as they were about to pick up their friendly conversation again. "Yes? What is it about?" he moved over to her and took the paper, quickly scanning over the words. He glanced up at his wife then back at his friend before re-reading the words. Part of his mind was confused by this, the other half was boiling with anger. Was this true? Where was Cutler now? He needed to have a talk with his boy. "Elaine, where is he?" he asked keeping his temper in check in front of his guest.

____________

Cutler brightened at the prospects of staying away from home for a night. Which would mean forestalling the storm that was sure to explode when he finally did arrive home. "No, I think it would be ok," he said, forgetting to defend himself and his sense of direction. He needed to go somewhere for the night anyway and he figured he'd rather sleep in a humble officer's home than on the street with the pigs like that girl he had bumped into today.
