"I want a long sword, with the word's "Long Endured" on the blade." Everya said, "How much will it be?"
She rumaged in her pack for her money bag to make sure she had enough.

Lady Dark Moon wrote: "I expected a better reception," Tlenes greeted with a twisted grin, stepping out from behind the doorframe. The speaker was the green-eyed young woman he'd spotted earlier. His faintly mocking gaze went from her, to the man with the sprained ankle, then to the eccentric historian.
You fool, Tlenes. That's hardly the way to greet the respected Toru-hi. Though he'd wandered the wild for years beside his rider, Evandyr still retained the rigid sense of honor that characterized all Hanari.
No, it's not, the other conceded with a mental shrug. But you have to admit it's entertaining nonetheless. Aloud, he continued, "It's crossed my nonexistent heart to warn you of an upcoming disaster." His blue-gray eyes narrowed. "Though it seems I've come too late."
Rayen's green eyes regarded the stranger fiercly. She wasn't one to trust people who just happened to show up when you were speaking of a matter of utmost importance. She didn't like his mocking expression.
She glanced to Eligh and Zhicoal before turning back to the stranger. "Who are you?" she demanded, unable to keep the irritation out of her voice, "And what exactly are you talking about?" She feared the answer to that last question.

Eligh started at the voice of the stranger, but soon regained composure and turned, brow furrowed, towards the man.
"Anything regarding the invaders in the canyon would be appriciated. And to agree with Rayen, who are you?" Zhicoal, staring at the man with interest, moved his cane slightly to gain better balance, all the while staring with a slightly wavering gaze at the man.

"My name is Aeryn." Aeryn said, looking over at Roanell, confused.

Eligh looked over at Aeryn.
"No no, not you, Aeryn... I was talking to him." Elight pointed at the strange man that had stated clearly that he had information.
"Wait... Wait a minute.... I know you... I could reconize that smart alac of a Toru-hi a mile away." The raspy voice came from Zhicoal, who was limping forward, back hunched, leaning on his cane, staring still at the man who had flown to his shack.

"Tlenes," he responded with the parody of a respectful bow. He sensed their wariness, especially from the young woman. "An army moves in the canyon. And I believe that your eagles have caught a certain affliction?" He nodded at the historian. "But perhaps he can tell you more than I."

Zhicoal seemed slighlty offended.
"Concerning the eagles, no. But this army you speak of... That is different." He turned to Eligh, who had just closed the doors. "Eligh, what did these 'black figures' of yours look like?" Eligh shrugged, and briefly explained their humanoid like figure, hunched over occationally, and as agile on a cliff as a mountain goat. Zhicoal nodded thoughtfully.
"Aye... Then it is worse than I thought." He headed over to a shelf carved into the wall, heavy with dust. Taking out a disentigrating book, he flipped it open on his desk, causing a clould of dust to swirl into a beam of light coming from a small window to the right of the room. Flipping to the page he seeked, Zhicoal took out to small pieces of shaped glass, fitted together by a curved band of wire, and placed them so that the wire rested on his nose. The strange contraption, or 'spectacles' as Zhicoal called them, obviously made it easier for him to read the fading text on the aged parchment, for her began to read aloud:
"On the account of Deoryn Icaldri, concerning the Julare:
'A pecular life form, often found in mountainous or rocky regions. Julare are leather-soled creatures that are more closely related to reptiles than man, as they cannot survive without sunlight for more than seven days, and talk in a rough language of hisses. They are naturaly black in color, but can use dark clothing to disguise themselves as needed.
I have also found that for such menacing creatures, they are possibly the most timid I have ever seen. They are exellant stratagists, considering they are animals rather than intelligent life, and they also have an uncanny abilty to bend one's mind to fulfil their will. Though I have discovered two weaknesses amoung their species:
Darkness: As they need sunlight, not only do julare avoid darkness, they hate it, despise it, and loath it more than anything I have seen before. And, under the right surcumstances, it will kill them.
Music: However strange it may seem, julare are rendered completely immoble at the sound of music of any sort. They go into a trance-like state, usually with their eyes open, and occationally their mouths as well. The only draw back of using this tactic to kill them is that they become even stronger once they regain mobility. I have yet to learn why.
Another point I must put out is that if one were to be bitten by one, or perhaps poisoned by one of their horrid potions, it would have an effect such as one gets when ---'" The line cut off, and Zhicoal stopped speaking and shut the book.
"I've searched far and wide for more information on the subject, but cannot find any. And as far as I can see, this Deoryn Icaldri is the only one to have studied them. As he said, they are quite shy." Zhicoal looked back at the man, Tlenes. "Now, is that what you expected?"

Tlenes leaned insouciantly against the doorframe and shrugged. He'd simply come to bear the news on Evandyr's urgings. As for the Toru-hi tribe, he scarcely gave a care if hell opened up and -
A stream of reproachful rebukes from Evandyr clued him in that he'd been a bit too vehement in his thoughts. Exiled or not, the eagle still bore the responsibility that'd befallen his ancestors so many eons ago. First, he was bound to his rider. But second and nearly in equal importance, he was bound as a guardian of this tribe.
Tlenes sighed and flicked a condescending look his eagle's way, purely for effect. "These lovely creatures... the Julare... do the studies mention at all about..." Here he stumbled for the right description. "...smaller, twisted semblances to the Hanari?"

Zhicoal glanced at the book, then looked back ate Tlenes, studying him with a hard stare.
"Yes. It does. Earlier in the chapter Deoryn mentions such... Why? Are you hiding something?"

"Oh." Aeryn said, and then shut up. He was never good at talking to strangers.

Rayen still regarded Tienes coldly. She was not very comfortable around strangers. But her eyes were drawn back to Zhicoal when they began speaking of the invaders in the canyon. She listened attentively as Zhicoal read the account of the Julare.
Rayen's nose wrinkled in revulsion. "I have never heard of any creatures like this," she said, "Why would they be here? What do they want with us?"
At Tienes mention of the 'smaller, twisted semblances to the Hanari,' Rayen's attention was once again drawn to him. She raised her eyebrows with curiosity. "These twisted versions of Hanari..." she began slowly, "They are in league with these Julare?" She felt a bit of anger rising up in her at the thought of anything resembling such noble creatures as the Hanari working with such disgusting creatures as these Julare sounded.

Roanell looked at Aeryn and waited silently.

Zhicoal looked at Rayen, and shook his head around, and then nodded, agreeing with himself.
"I.. Yes, yes, you could say that... Though, these creatures you speak of, the Kyentari -you can here the name resemblence- are much, much more inteligent than the Julare. And, they are known to eat Julare from time to time. But, another thing about these creatures, is that they are not completely like the Hanari resemblence wise. They are smaller, and they are more like... Oh what are those things called?.... Bird-cats? no... Thats what they look like though... Grifine? Giffer? AH! Gryphon! Thats it!" He looked up, to see the rather un-inpressed face of Eligh. Shaking his head again, he continued. "Anyway, they are more like gryphons, but tend to be completely back, along with being completely covered in feathers, rather than part feathers, part fur. And these feathers are covered in a slick oil, which has a very pontent smell, and can ultimately be used as a leathal drug, if collected in the right amounts. Though, no one uses it, as Kyentari are fierce enimies, and their oil is practicly unattainable. But, back to the point, the answer is yes. They are in legue with the Julare."

Something is going on. Inanco looked up from the knife he was sharpening as Aras's words intruded on his thoughts.
What? he asked the eagle.
There are many gathered at Zhicoal's house. Aras landed outside Inanco's house, and the young man walked out to join him.
I might as well join them. he said as the mounted the eagle.
Aras spiraled up quickly and flew towards the old man's house, keeping low to the ground. In a few minutes, he landed again, and Inanco dismounted, thanking the eagle.
Walking quickly to join the group, he asked, "What is going on?"
