Sirius shrugged. "They gladly give us the food, you know that." He took a sip of his pumpkin juice and grinned: "Never heard you complain though, when we brought some food to the common room. And besides.. life is not too bad for these House-Elves, in some families they're treated like vermin.." His eye fell on the white-blond hair of Lucius Malfoy, and at the boy beside him, Regulus. Sirius' eyes narrowed but remained silent. He forced himself to look at his plate again and tried to forget his disgust by eating the rest of his potatoes.

"Oh, lighten you, Remus," said James, though a mouthfull of food. "They love giving food to us. Sirius is right, there much better off here than anywere." He smiled at the thought of sneaking though the corrdors under his invsablaty(sp) cloak to go to the kitchin.

"All the same," Lupin said as he pierced a potato. "I think Dumbledore should pay them or something. They really do deserve something for their hard work."

Sirius rolled his eyes. "And before we know they are on strike to demand more payment and then there's no one left to prepare these delicious ice cakes." He stared at the table as the deserts appeared and in no time his plate was filled again with cake, different sorts of ice and jello.

"Well a strike doesn't sound that bad of an idea," Lupin remarked as he calmly sliced a piece of lemon pie. "Maybe if we had an organised demonstration of creatures that are mostly persecuted by wizards, like goblins, house-elves, were.." Lupin stopped suddenly and paid more attention to his pie than usual.

"Don't worry" Sirius replied "I've seen you worrying Remus, but don't. We know what we are doing and we will help you." His voice was determined and he looked at James to help him convince their friend. He ate last of his apple pie and sat back, satisfied and sleepy.

"Sirius is right," said James, sticking his fork into a charrie pie, "Besides, I think I found out a way to bighten up your furry little problem." He dug farther into the pie with a small smile on his face. Full moons might get exciting this year if he could get this right.

Cat yawned once, twice and thrice, before remembering to put her hand in front of her mouth. She grinned lazily and winked at a terrified looking first year, who had been eyeing her distastefully.
"And now to bed?"she asked noone in particular, but patting Lily on the back while she stood up, her eyes lingering on Sirius again.
She knew she was direct, but wondered how he would react. Maybe it was all just for fun- She didnt really know what possesed her at the moment, but it felt like she was going to do the right thing.

Sirius beamed. He couldn't wait until they had time to experiment with James' plan. The tables automatically cleaned themselves and Sirius stood up from his seat and said to Remus: "Shouldn't you show those little brats the way to our Common Room?" He gestured to a group of first years in the crowd which looked around in panic, not knowing where to go.

James stood with Sirius and yawned. He looked over and saw Lily getting up from the table. He waved, earning himself a scowal(sp) back. James roled his eyes and turn his attention back to his freinds, as he heard Sirius say something to Remus about the first years.

Lupin nodded and said in a tired voice, "First years, would you please kindly follow me?" He waited for the horde of first years to assemble behind him before leading them to the Gryffindor tower

Lily stood up, the sudden tiredness overwhelming her. She wobbled slightly on her feet and then followed everyone else out of the hall.
'You know you are going to tell me about Black," Lily commented.

Severus left the hall too and saw Lily, heading for the Gryffindor tower. He struggled a bit, looking back at his friends from the Slytherin house. He knew what they thought of Lily, but he didn't care about them, but got up to Lily and slowly put his hand on her shoulder, knowing he might scare her. "Goodnight, Lily" he said. "I think I'll see you tomorrow morning then."

Lily jumped as she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around to see Severus. She smiled and nodded.
"Yeah. I'll see you in the morning," she said and gave him a quick hug,"I really did miss you over the holidays!"
Then she turned around and left, continuing her way up to the Gryffindor tower.

Severus smiled again at her as he hugged her back, feeling a bit happy again after this long time. "Me too" he said, watching her leave into her house. "I only wish you were in the same house as me." Serverus thought as he turned back and went into the Slytherin tower.

"Come on Sirius," said James, "I'm tired." James turned around and joined the crowd walking up the stairs in the direction of the Gryphendor commen room. He got to the portired of the pink lady, and relized he didn't know the new pass word.
