Calista's breathing grew more shallow as the tightening in her throat grew worse.

Finished with his hunt, Gareth flew back to the home and quickly prepared the deer meat for storage. Once that was finished, he stored the meat in the family's small storage room before quickly cleaning off. Walking back into the guestroom, Gareth felt his face pale as he saw Calista limp on the ground will a pillow under her head as she gasped for breath. "CALISTA!" he screamed her name in horror as he rushed to her side. Kneeling beside her, Gareth placed his fingers at her neck, checking for a pulse while he scanned her for any sign of injury. "What happened?" he asked Rosalina, fear in his voice.

Rosalina told him what happened, with the spasms and the seizure. "I don't understand. She made this high moaning sound . . . "

Calista rasped once more, before finally ceasing to breathe.

Gareth's frown deepened as Rosalina mentioned the spasms and the seizure. At the rate Calista was going she was just going to starve to death as she seemed unable to hold down even the smallest morsel of food. Yet, he could stop himself from expressing his puzzlement at Rosalina's last bit of information to him. "What-?" he started to ask when he heard the rasp coming from the limp woman on the pillow before hearing nothing. "CALISTA!!!" he yelled her name in fear before leaning over her to check her breathing. Finding that no air was passing through her lungs, Gareth quickly tilted her head back and started to perform mouth to mouth on her. "Come on Rose, pull through," he whispered in between his breaths. He just couldn't lose her...not when they were about to wed.

Calista did not respond as Gareth continued to perform mouth to mouth on her. Pausing for a brief moment, Gareth placed his fingers on the woman's neck, checking for a pulse, but found none. "CALISTA, no!" he exclaimed as he quickly started to perform chest compressions on her. "Please, please, come back..." he begged, starting to feel tears prickle at his eyes.

"Come on, Calista," Gareth whispered as he alternated chest compressions between breathing into her mouth without getting any response. The woman just lay limp and pale beneath him, as one fit for the grave.

"Please, Calista, come back," Gareth murmured as he continued to work on the lifeless woman, refusing to give up on her. He refused to believe that their life together was over before it started. "Don't leave me," he begged as more seconds slipped by without her giving any sign of life. After about five more minutes, although it seemed that an eternity had passed, Calista started to cough hard as air slowly flowed into her lungs.

"That's it, love," Gareth whispered to Calista as he gently caressed her forehead. "Come back to us," he whispered as he pressed a kiss to the top of the woman's forehead.

After a few minutes, Calista's cough abated and she just lay limp on the pillow, her breathing still weak and shallow.

Gareth nodded as he gently swept Calista into his arms. "I will take her back to her room," he added softly as he glanced down at the limp woman in his arms. Oh, Calista, please pull through. I am just not whole without you, he thought to himself, the worry never leaving his eyes.

Seeing Rosalina's nod, Gareth gave her a forced smile in response, but the smile did not reach his eyes. "Call me if you need me," he said after a moment though he hoped that Darius would be fine for awhile as at the moment, the mage's only concern was Calista. With that, Gareth walked out of the guestroom, cradling his lifeless love close as he carried her back to her room.
