The figure lurked in the shadows, shrouded by the dark and seemingly unconcerned about the sudden downpour of rain. Flipping up the hood of a baggy black sweater, the figure stepped out of the shadows and began to walk down the sodden street. Every so often quickly and subtley looking over there shoulder. There pace quickened slightly as familiar territory appeared over the horizon.

Pulling the chain from her black army pants, she put the key into the lock of the door and turned it. Walking into the modest apartment, the figure pulled down the hood and shook some of the rain from her brown hair. Muttering as she noticed her mascara had ran

"Waterproof...right"

Pulling of her sweater and hanging it up on a hook next to the door, the young woman slumped onto a nearby sofa. Any tension she felt outside began to melt away as she relaxed in the privacy of her own company, just how she liked it.

Her eyelids felt heavy and they began to droop as she dozed off into a warm sleep.

A creak on her floorboards alerted her and she instinctively shot up from the sofa, looking all around her. Standing in the doorway between the living room area and the kitchen was a tall man, dressed in a strange grey outfit only just covered by a long black raincoat. Before she got a chance to speak, he did.

"Alexis...we've been looking for you" his voice was dark and comanding, it also filled her with dread.

She could sense him. She had felt his presence ever since she arrived in the city a few days ago. Always there; lurking, seeking, determined to find his target. He was all too familiar to her by now. He had been there in Chicago. She had first noticed him on Michigan Avenue. It was when she had stopped in front of the H&M store to do some window shopping that she noticed he had stopped too. Waiting. Watching. She had not been able to catch his face, see who he was, but she had felt him just like she did now. He had been out on the Navy Pier with her as well. There had been a carnival going on with a huge crowd of eager children and their annoyed parents but his presence had come through. Cunning. Vicious. He had then appeared in Kansas City. She had come with the train from Chicago to Union Station and was just about to head for the ladies room when she had felt him again. Briefly though. Before he had disappeared out of her life. Or so she had thought...

Now, 6 months later, as she was standing on the corner of Pike and 4th in Seattle she suddenly felt him again. Faint at first, but there it was just the same. It wasn't his specific odor that gave him away. It was his aura. Aiyana had never encountered such an aura until he had come into her life, creeping about in the shadows like a predator guarding his prey. All he had to do was leap forward. She wondered why he hadn't already.

"Maybe he doesn't know who he is supposed to look for?" she thought. "Yet..."

Catalina walked down the streets to her modest home, shrouded in her dark rain coat, and in an utterly foul mood. Around her and in the surrounding neighborhood rain poured all around her, drenching those brave enough to face the storm. She had a difficult day at work, and an argument with her boss had made her extrememly testy for the rest of the day. She could hear the complaints of others about the weather and bit her lip in frustration. Checking her emotions as much as she could, she lowered the downpour to a drizzle and finally allowed the sun to peak through the clouds to dry the drenched earth. As she turned down a more deserted block to her home, she could hear the clicking of boots behind her. Feeling her heart quicken, she instintively walked faster, hearing the footsteps quicken as well. Pausing for a moment she closed her eyes and drew in a steadying breath, only to hear the steps pause a few moments later. An eerie silence pervaded the air and a chill ran up her spine. Turning around as swiftly as possible she scanned the deserted area, her eyes finding nothing amiss. Frowning slightly, she removed her raincoat and hastened down the road.

Slowly the man stepped from the shadows as Catalina walked off. Clad in a dark coat, he stayed a few paces behind her and kept to the darkness, his eyes never leaving his intended prey.

Lark Starling looked up from the cashier and looked around the store intently, watching if any of the customers decided to steal to a video. The plants on the counter had started to droop. Lark glanced at them and they started to stand tall again. At that moment, Micheal Starling, Lark's twin brother came through the door from the back with a box of videos. Mikey placed the box of videos behind the counter and then turned to face the wall. Lark did the same. "Yow know you shouldn't be using your powers in front of people like that," Mikey said "I know." Lark said. Mikey glanced around the shop,"Spy any stealers yet?" "No," his brother replied,"I'll keep watch." Mikey nodded his reply and went to put the videos in their rightful places on the shelves

Elenriel and Nienna, by your characters being able to sense the Paladin sort of... defies the purpose of my character since that is her mutation (being able to sense, see, hear, feel, taste and smell more than any other being). I don't want to be picky.. but when I wrote about my character sensing the Paladin wherever she went, especially their aura, that was her superhuman sensing ability mutation.

I might add some angst later. I love angst ) He was a fairly good student, and went on to college to become a vet. He is now working as a zoo vet .

Owen swore as he glared at the storm with a very nasty eye. "Fantastic," he said with a tone that can be likened to a person swearing. He tucked on his leather bomber jacket closely as he walked down the street, hoping to get to his flat before the storm got worse. Despite having to stay low from Paladins, he enjoyed a life of comfort so with a few raids in (of course) Paladin treasuries, both physical and electronic, and fraudulent identification, he was able to live in a lovely flat that was comfortable and reasonable. As he quickly walked towards his home, he failed to notice the man in an inconspicuous raincoat behind him.

Alexis took several slow, cautious steps back. Something was eerily familiar about this stranger, something she just couldn't put her finger on.
Her anger began to rise, he had just broken into her apartment somehow. She wanted answers.

"Who are you and how in the hell did you get in here?" she spoke up, her eyes full of anger.

The stranger stepped forward, never taking his eyes off her. One hand remaining in his pocket the whole time.

"My name is Nathaniel, I just want to talk to you" he paused and looked deep into her eyes "Alexis"

"How do you know me? I don't know you" Alexis, began to feel concerned about this intimidating man in her home. "I'd like you to leave, right now and don't think I'm not calling the cops. Breaking and entering is illegal after all" her hands began to clench and declench in a rhythmic fashion, almost matching her racing heartbeat.

"I know everything about you Alexis" the man smirked at her "you...disgust me" he sneered at her, his eyes full of hate. Within the blink of an eye he pulled out a long cane and a wire came zipping out towards Alexis at a frightening speed.

Alexis tried to move out the way, but to no avail. The cord wrapped around her wrist and her body was immediately wracked with agony as some kind of electrical pulse was emitted from Nathaniels short cane.

As Catalina neared her home she glanced behind her once again but could detect nothing out of the ordinary. Must have been a figment of my imagination, she thought. With that she walked up the few steps to her front door. Fumbling for her key, she jiggled the lock, turned on the lights and quietly locked the door behind her. Tossing her purse down on the couch she sat down with a heavy sigh. After a few moments she rose once more. Grabbing her purse, she went to her room to put her things away.

Raphael stepped from the shadows once more as Catalina entered her house. The Paladin smiled darkly and watched as he watched her bedroom light flicker on. He had followed the young mutant for many weeks now, studied her routine and knew when to strike. Pulling his dark coat even more tightly about him, he slowly moved toward the house. Slipping in through an ajar back window, he waited in the shadows for his moment to strike.

Owen continued walking like he didn't have odd powers and he wasn't followed by a crazy society that hunted people like him. Even though he sometimes hated his powers, seeing as it caused him to take up the life as a criminal, often the thrill of being hunted and becoming the hunter consumed Owen like a drug. He walked inside the flat building and pressed the up button on the lift.

Luther followed him like he had for the past two weeks. It's been very fortunate that he managed to find the Mutant at this particular city. He was a hard little dirt to track, always leaping from city to city. A constant fear was that he would attempt to follow him only to find that the Mutant was two hundred miles away in an obscure town. At least with Jumpers, he could also follow through their Jump Scars. When his target finally stopped at his home and waited for the elevator, he pressed his Blutooth, saying to his superior officer, "I have visual on the target. Send in Alpha Squad." The Paladins did not want to mess this up like that they did the last time they went after him.

He was drawing near her. She could feel it. Her eyes searched through Westlake Park across the street. She tried to focus on individuals but she could only pick up snippets of their thoughts amidst the crowd of pedestrians. She wondered what he would look like. Would it show on the outside? Clearly the kind of aura that he possessed would shine through. Ever since she was a child she had been able to sense people's auras. Not everyone had a visible one though. It depended on how intense it was.

He was now near enough for Aiyana to get a sense of direction. She turned around and looked down 4th Avenue. Pedestrians were walking up and down the street like fish in a stream. The sidewalk was crowded with people, it was hard enough to notice anyone. There he was though. Leaning against the old Street Clock outside Carroll's Jewelry. Watching intensely. She had no doubt it was him. No one else on the street had that thick and dark of an aura. Evil. It was almost taunting her.

"What does he want?" she thought.

Their eyes locked for a split second. A smirk formed on his face.

With a sigh Cale collapsed onto his sofa. Today had been a long day, and it was only going to get longer. He'd already treated the local zoo's cheetah, who was pregnant and sick, and in about ten minutes he'd have to leave to assess a male tiger at a nearby sanctuary who was limping constantly. Probably the bloody owners wh tried to keep him as a pet had him declawed he thought angrily, knwoing well that declawing big cats most often caused problems like this later in life. He fumed for awhile, completely oblivious to the man outside his flat door. Cale was ripped from his thoughts when the door shuttered loudly. It was kicked again, and this time flew open the lock broken. With all the speed he could muster, Cale shifted to the shape of a large orange tabby cat. He meowed at the intruders, trying to act like a normal cat. There was only one man, but he was armed, and looked like he didn't need a gun to kill.

"Hello kitty" The man sneered. "Or should I say, Calek" Cale hissed and lept through the the Paladin's legs. THe Paladin was quick though. Just as Cale thought he was free, a rough had grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and hauled him off the ground. With a yowl Cale bit the man. The man yelped, and then tossed Cale across the room. As he landed on the ground, Cale had already assumed the shape of a full grown male lion.
