(Sorry for my REALLY long absence from the post; it takes me forever to get access.

Women, eh? They're crazy, the lot of them. Tears, more tears, tantrums, rows, tearful making-ups, miscommunication, betrayal, tears.... oy. You know, the only reason why women do'n't rule the world is because they hate each other.
And Falathiel; the Nimbus Racing Broom Company did'n't exist in those days. Probably the best broom you could get was the Cleansweep Three or something. And I think Dumbledore was the Marauders' and Lily's Transfig. teacher.)

Peter woke up the day of the ball and whimpered a little. He did'n't have a date. He would have asked Lily, but he knew she was off-limits. James would jinx him into a slug. He went down to breakfast and quickly scanned the table. If he could just get up the courage to ask someone to the ball, it might not be so bad. Rattling off an "Eeny-Meany-Miney-Moe" in his head, he shuffled over to Dani. Wishing for all the world to simply transform into a rat, he said, "Erm... Danielle?" (Sorry if this is'n't your full name) She turned in her seat. "Yeah, Peter?" she said in frosty tones. "Um..." he said, shuffling his feet nervously. "D'youwannagoballwime?" "What?" She said, rather taken aback. "I mean [gulp], would you like to go to the b-ball with me?" She hesitated, looking as though she were working on her Arithmancy homework. Just then, to complicate matters, Sirius called along the table, "Oy, Wormtail? What are doing?!" He started to stride over, a little faster than he should. Dani stared blankly.

She turned in her seat. "<i>What</i>, Peter?!" she said in frosty tones.

"Um..." he said, shuffling his feet nervously. "D'youwannagoballwime?"

"WHAT?" She said, outraged.

"I mean [gulp], would you like to go to the b-ball with me?"

She stared at him as though he were out of his mind. Fan<i>tas</i>tic. JUST her luck...she couldn't do ANY BETTER?! Just then, to complicate matters, Sirius called along the table, "Oy, Wormtail? What are doing?!" Dani looked up at him, then shook her head and walked away. She made a disgusted face as she walked trhough the hallways, fuming. Wasn't it enough that no one had asked her?! NO, Fate had to rub it in by making PETER PETTIGREW ask her!!! She was furious - simply fuming. She stomped all the way up the staircase. He was lucky Sirius had come along, otherwise she might have knocked the living daylights out of him. UGH...where the hell was Lily when she needed her?!

After his last sentence James bid quick farewell to Erika and mounted his broom towards the ground. In the second he landed he slowly stretched his whole body and ruffled his hair even more. That already became a habbit. A small yawn escaped from his lips as he turned back towards the castle. He was enthusiastic. Possibly over enthusiastic. But at this point he simply didn't want to think about that so he let his cocky side take over. As he begun climbing up the stairs he heard someone muttering behind his back. He turned around causing the person who was behind him bump into him and start falling. Luckily, he had good reflex-action even though it was early morning. The person was shorter and lighter than him so he had no troubles with catching her. As he gained his almost lost balance he looked at the person with smile on his face and started:
"I..." and then he realized who is standing in front of him "Dani?!"

Dani, walking blindly and muttering to herself, accidentally bumped into someone, but felt him catch her. She looked up and saw James. She tried to get out of his hold, but he <i>was</i> a Quidditch player, and she - though she didn't admit it - was upset. "Let me go," she said, close to tears and trying to elbow him, "Let me <i>go</i>, James!"

James remembered all what happened yesterday. But as Dani looked at him and as he saw huge change on her face, especially her eyes, he immediately forgot everything. He was still holding her and at this point he was sure that he won't simply let go. Something obviously happened. And as Dani was in the circle of his best friends he wanted to know what happened, and if needed, beat some boy up or make some girl jelaous. Do something bad to the one who did that to her.
"No." he declared and slightly tightened his grip around her. Still he was very careful as he didn't want to hurt her "Not before you tell me what happened."

Dani sighed in frustration, but as soon as she stopped struggling, tears came to her eyes and her voice started breaking. "Look - Peter asked me to the ball, okay? I feel <i>rotten</i>...you wouldn't understand, but everything's just been horrible for me this week, okay?! <i>Now</i> will you <i>let-me-go?!</i>"

As he heard that, James felt urge to start laughing like crazy. Still, seeing so upset Dani, he struggled to keep straight face and for few long moments that was working pretty well.
"Peter? You mean - our Peter? Peter the Marauder?" he asked trying to connect everything. To him, this sounded ridiculus. Why would Peter ask Dani to the dance? Was he aware that Sirius would test the worst curse he knew, on him, if she said yes? Simply, he didn't have an answer.
"Why do you judge me before I say anything? Seriously Dani, the week has possibly been rotten for you but you don't have to use me as punching bag. You could simply ask me to conjure one for you." he said and slightly smiled still not letting her go.

James was only making Dani angrier. "Let me GO, Potter!" she said, all of her accumulated anger showing in her voice. "I'm <i>serious</i> - let <i>go</i> of me!"

James rolled his eyes and replied calmly "I won't let you go! Get that already." he said now openly looking straight at her eyes. He wasn't sure how long she could last "I'm not gonna let you go and bump into Sirius somewhere. Neither one of you needs that right now!" he said and paused "And with my luck-quota that will happen for sure. So you will stay with me until you calm down."

Dani was too upset to care what she said - and began to say things she didn't mean. "To <i>hell</i> with Sirius, okay?! I'm tired of him already - just leave me alone."

James had to loose his grip just a bit as she begun yelling and struggling again. This was a tough nut and he simply had to find a way to brake it somehow. To him, it seemed like he's in a room filled with overly fragile things which he mustn't brake. The thing was, every connection between Sirius and Dani was fragile in deed.
"Maybe you are. But you aren't watching the other side." he said as his hair fell on his face and partially on his eyes "And if you really mean what you've just said, why do you suddenly change whenever he appears?"

Dani rolled her eyes and lowered her voice. "Look - let me explain something to you. There is <i>nothing</i> between us - got that? Nothing! NOTHING is going to happen between us! FORGET IT!"

James sarcastically smiled. More for himself then to her or anyone else who was around. He arched an eyebrow at her and opened his mouth to speak again "Well, impossible things do happen. You've witnessed one yesterday." he said and make a meaningful pause "But, if you're so certain, maybe I should talk to Sirius and convince him not to ask you to the ball after all. I mean what's the point? You're screaming that you can't stand him and that he can go to hell, really, he doesn't deserve that." he added finally straightening his back so he was now complitely looking down at her "I didn't expect this from you." he said seriously as his smile complitely faded.
