A taller boy, with unruly black hair falling in his serious grey eyes, came through the barrier pushing a trolley on which was a trunk. It was smaller than some, with a cage containing a small charcoal-grey owl. He heaved his trunk and owl onto the train and strolled over to where the others were. "Hey. How was everyone's summer?"

"Oh, hi!" said Cindy, turning to see him. "Mine was all right...I went to America."

Nick grinned. "I stayed home. Dad got fired and spent half the summer trying to find another job, so money was a little tight. He almost didn't let me come back but I convinced him. Where in America?"

This was all delivered very matter-of-factly - they all knew about Nick's dad and his financial difficulties and he knew they knew.

Cindy nodded, then said, "California. That's where I got my hair done," she added with a grin and slight tilt of her head.

He glanced behind him as the Hogwarts Express gave a deafening whistle and added. "We should get a compartment before they're all gone, eh?"

"Yeah. See you guys later!" Harry waved to everyone, grabbed his things and followed Ron onto the Hogwarts Express. He could hear the whistle, signaling that they only had a few minutes left to board. Harry walked behind Ron to the first open compartment.

He glanced down the passage at the glass-doored compartments, and walking past noticed Cindy. "Hey, unless there's three invisible people in there that you happen to have acquired in the last few minutes, it looks as though you're alone," he said with a grin, opening the door. "Mind if Shade and I join you?"
