“Nothing big, hmm? Obviously you don’t have the responsibility to be trusted with your studies; I’m going to hire a tutor for after school lessons. You are going to bring that grade up! Do you hear me?” Elaine bent down to be eyelevel with him. “And you’d better watch that mouth, young man. I’ll not have that sort of talk in this house!”

There were many things that ran through Cutler's mind in response to this. He tried to restrain himself, but couldn't help it. At the mention of a tutor he had to burst, "a tutor?! What makes you think I need on of those?! I think I'm doing perfectly fine. Those school masters just like to exaggerate things!" He ignored her last command and only muttered, "Of course." in a low tone.

“Then we’ll make it so they exaggerate an 'A'!” Elaine responded, smartly. “Your father and I will not have our son failing - haven’t I already made this clear? Stop acting like a child and get your act together! I’ll not have you slide through school, Cutler! If you wish to be successful, you need to keep good grades and must possess the skill to work hard - both of which you neither have nor are doing!”

"Ugh," Cutler was exasperated with trying to make her understand, "and I'm NOT failing! How clear do I have to make that? I'm NOT acting like a child either! I'm simply trying to make it clear that you don't know what you're talking about!" he yelled back, "all you know is what just happened! Those aren't the full facts. Those are just what one teacher told you! You can't judge everything from that!"

“Then what are the facts, Cutler?!” Elaine demanded tersely, growing angrier by the second. Why on Earth did this child have to be hers? “You insist that you aren’t failing, and yet I certainly don’t see you passing! I see no reason for your teachers to lie, either. They know what’s best for you! You’ll never be successful if this is the attitude you’re going to have when it comes to your education!”

"The facts are," he paused and thought, "that they're showing you one thing. One subject only! You see no reason because you don't know them! They don't know what's best for me... I think I should know!" he glowered at her, knowing that maybe now he was acting just a little childish, but he was in too far now to stop. 'Ah,' he knew the perfect way out of the situation. And it would get him out of the house before his father came home too. He needed to calm down anyway. "My education is fine!" he turned and stormed toward the door.

“Cutler Beckett!” Elaine called after him. Sighing, she sat down on one of the chairs in the corner of the room. What should she do? She couldn’t just let him walk away, could she? But she was far too mad to chase after him now. Let him go. He’ll come back when he’s ready. She leaned back and closed her eyes, trying to remedy her headache.

Cutler turned his head and gave his mother a glare before opening up the door and slamming it. He hoped she wouldn't follow him and try to stop him. After a short time when he didn't hear her yelling behind him so he figured he was safe. Cutler took off at a run towards anywhere as long as it was far away from there. He dashed through the streets of London.

After what seemed like several long hours, Cutler finally stopped and took in his surroundings.

(do you want to bring in Keykey yet, Ara?)

[[Sure, I was just thinking I should bring her in. I guess the others can start now. :D ]]

Keyara never thought shopping at the market would be this hard. She had the money in her hands and yet the clerk wouldn’t take it; instead he put everything she picked up beside. “You need 32 pound,” he insisted. “Only got 31, that I can see.”

The blonde-haired 15-year-old rolled her eyes and cursed under her breath. “Wait.” She dug around in her pocket for the coins her foster father had given her, only to discover they had gone missing. It was then that she discovered the giant hole in the fabric. “Sir, I had 32 pound, honestly, but it seems the rest must’ve fallen out somewhere…”

“No money, no excuses. Goodbye, Miss.” He motioned for her to leave and Keyara stormed away from the stand.

(Yup! :-D)

Cutler blinked, he didn't recognize this place. He bit his lower lip and turned around at the sound of voices. In fact, now that he began getting used to his surroundings he realized many people were there. However, none of them looked like him. They were all... poor looking. He glanced down at his clothes, they stuck out in this crowd. Cutler sighed, trying to figure out where he might be, out of the corner of his eye he saw a young girl, who was about his age, storming away from a stand. He watched her, still wondering where exactly he was. He didn't remember ever being in this part of London before and for now it hadn't quite settled in that he wasn't quite sure which way home was.

He glanced over at a old, ragged man who was eyeing him strangely. He fidgeted and pulled his coat closer. He didn't like the attention that he was beginning to attract.

Jack made his way down the lane, swaying slightly. His footsteps were light across the pathway, but his exaggerated hand movements caused many people in the market square to look at him strangely. His eyes brightened when he saw a stand lined with bottles of rum and little golden trinkets. He stepped over the crates of food and ran towards the stand, leaning against the wooden pole with a slow smile. He waited for the woman behind the stand to glance up at him impatiently.
"Excuse me." he said, his expression still frozen on his face. The woman did not look up.
"Excuse me!" he raised his voice, his brows furrowing.

Keyara kept her gaze downward as she walked and she hardly noticed the boy in front of her until she had run into him. Glancing up, she gave a hurried apology; “Sorry, sir, didn’t mean to… - ” Keyara stopped mid-sentence, looking at his beautiful greenish-grey eyes. She took a step back and noticed that his clothes didn’t resemble anything she had seen people wearing in this part of London. And he looked lost, obviously not from around these parts.

[[There you are - the beginnings of Beckara! :D]]

[I'm going to post Charlotte and James together, to save the virtual trees ;)]

James Norrington stepped off the small ferry onto the steps. He could hear the many market persons calling their wares as he turned to help his childhood friend, Charlotte Staford, disembark. James tossed the ferryman a shilling before the pair climbed the grubby steps, up to the main street. On reaching the top, Charlotte slipped a gloved hand into the crook of James' elbow and ajusted her small parisole before walking graciously into the market.

[Sorry it was a bit short, just thought it'd be a good introduction for the pair.]

(nice intros, guys. ;))

Before he knew what was happening the girl Cutler had been watching ran straight into him. He took several steps back and glared at her. Why didn't she watch where she was going anyway? He noticed she was taking in his appearance too, which was adding to his nervousness. He shifted his weight and impatiently said, "yes?" Cutler was determined to keep control of the situation... no matter what.
