"Night, daddy. I love you," Lucy said with a small smile. "Daddy, don't forget to turn off the fireplace or Santa can't come down the chimmney tonight!"
Lucy then sat up quickly and asked, "Will Santa bring Edward something for Christmas?"

Katherine walked into Lucy's room and went over to her closet. She opened it up and got out a blanket from the top of it. She sighed, when she heard Lucy's question to her father. Katherine slowly looked over her shoulder to Timothy, but didn't say a word.

"Well.." Timothy hesitated, but continued, "We'll see in the morning now won't we?" He stood up from the side of his child's bed, said a prayer with her, and walked out of the room, clicking off the lights.

Lucy pulled her covers closer to her face and then flipped onto her side, looking out her small window at the bright white moon. "Please God, let Santa bring Edward a present to make him happier tomorrow for Christmas. Amen." She then shut her eyes and yawned.

Katherine was still in the room, when Lucy said her prayer. She smiled weakly and then quietly walked out and into the living room, with the blanket in her arms. She stood in front of Edward and gently placed the blanket over his body. "There you go, Edward..." She said, softly.

Edward's eyes twinkled as the Christmas lights from the tree reflected into his black orbs.
"Thank you.." he said faintly. He took in a breath that wheezed.

Lucy was soon fast asleep in her bed. Her small mouth slightly agape as she breathed softly. Her mind drifted into dreams about Christmas morning.

Katherine nodded to Edward. "You're welcome..." She said softly and then sighed. "If you need anything, just tell me okay?" She asked and then walked toward her and Timothy's bedroom, slowly.

Once Katherine and Jim had disappeared into their bedroom and the warm home became quiet, Lucy's small brown eyes popped open. Had Santa been here yet? Did he leave her any gifts?
Jumping out of bed silently, she tiptoed out of her room and peeked around the hallway corner, looking toward the living room with the bright white Christmas tree. No gifts.....no presents.....Santa did not even eat the cookies and milk that she gave him...... Sighing heavily, she looked toward Edward and then approached the couch as quietly as she could. "Edward, are you asleep?" she whispered.

"No..." came a quiet voice from the shadowed figure of the scissor-handed man.
"If I was, I'd be in heaven..." His eyes stared up at the ceiling, yearning for something that he could not have, "..with the angels."

Lucy did not question Edward's answer, but instead yawned with a wide mouth. She covered it slowly and then stood near the foot of the couch and said sadly, "Santa has not been here yet. But I prayed he would come soon and that he'd bring you a gift." She smiled lightly and then walked close to his side,"Can I sleep on the couch with you? Maybe I'll see Santa when he comes. Can I sleep with you?" But as Lucy asked these questions, she softly began to crawl onto the couch and next to Edward's squeaky side....just like any normal eight year old child would.

Katherine was pacing back and forth in her and Timothy's room. She had no clue what to do. She sighed deeply and folded her arms. She had to think of something that Edward could have that had belonged to her mother. She knew that it would be great for Edward's long road to healing.
