Matt glanced at Mary, John and Kira who were actually scolding at him and then at Larain who was actually doing nothing. He tucked a cigarette between his teeth. "But do whatever you like.." he continued, holding his h ands up as if he surrendered. "I at least know when I'm not wanted." And with one deadly glare on John he turned his back on the group and walked out of the hallway, lighting his cigarette and actually relieved that he left them.

Don nodded agreement. They coninued on for awhile longer until they came to a dead end. Or more like a big door in their way. It was covered in a strange picture that could hardly be made out because it was so faded.

Idly he put his hand in his pocket as he examined the door, and touched his cell phone.
"Idea..." he mumbled to himself, and pulled it out. "Why hadn't I thought of this before."

Quickly he dialed a number and held it up to his ear. It rang for a minute then the person on the other line answered.
"Hey, you won't guess where I'm at..." he went on to tell where he and Kathryn were and how they got there....

Larain watched the scene with some intrest, wondering how it would end up. It ended up with Matt starting to walk away, lighting a cigarett.
"That went bad," she mumbled to herself, then jumped slightly. Digging into her pocket she pulled out her cell phone that had started to vibrate. Looking at the number she answer.
"Don?"
"Hey, you wouldn't guess where I'm at..." the voice on the other end started saying. Larain listened intently. "Now we're at this one door and..."
"Hold on, Don," she said quickly, and pulled it away from her ear.
"Well, I've got one question answered. You guys are gonna like this. Turns out this wierd book we're looking for is in the library. Third floor, to be exact. And it is just a normal book... but, there's a catch," Larain said, a mischeviouse grin spreading on her face...

"They've probably moved the book," John warned them. He stared at Matt as he walked off. What an idiot, he though maliciously. Once things don't go his little way, he storms off. God, he's just like a five year old girl. He relaxed his features when he turned to them, however. "So, let's go then?" he suggested.

Kathryn studied the picture as Don called his sister, trying to make sense of it. She brushed her hand against the image, trying to clear away some of the dust, yet it still remained a mystery to her. "Some ancient design perhaps," she murmured. "Well?" she asked Don when she noticed a pause in their conversation.

Mary looked at him carefully. At his sudden coldness she'd stepped back. She seen him like this only rarely; but knew well enough not to push him. So when he turned them to them more calmly she smiled broadly; though still with a slight hint of wariness in her eyes. "Sounds like a good plan. Lets do it."

Larain glared at Mary and John. They seemed to have ignored her.
"It's not likely they moved the book... knowing what it opens," she said. "Do what you want, but the librarian knows I take frequent trips there to read books, so I don't think it matters if I go. But do what you want. I'm going to try and figure this out on my own. Good thing for me I've got a twin in this school. He's already five steps ahead of us."

Larain put the phone back up to her ear.
"I'll see if I can get there. I really would like to see what you're talking about," with that she hung up and with another glare in John and Mary's direction, stomped off quickly. She passed Matt, but ignored him, heading for the back door of the library.

(there's one way for you to get Matt back in this, Will. Though all of you tell me if I'm getting a little too drastic or something with my posts...)

Don didn't have time to reply to Larain before she hang up. With a sigh, he put the cell phone back in his pocket.
"She was talking to somebody. Not sure who. She said she's coming as fast as she can, and wanted to see this place. In the mean time, we should find a way to open this door," he said to Kathryn...

"Right." Kathryn replied as she scanned the door for a handle but found none. Brushing away more dust from the door she could just make out an inscription in some sort of strange text. "Geez, this place is filthy," she muttered to herself in disgust as she glanced down at the dust and soot on her hand. "Maybe there is some sort of code-since I can't seem to find a handle-or if there is one-the makers certainly hid it well."

Don came up and looked closely at the door, holding the torch close as well. He wiped away some dust with his hands to uncover more of the strange text.
"Yeah. If only there was some key, then maybe we could decode this wierd writting. Like a phrase in english that matches up with a phrase in this language, you know? Then it would be easier," he said, examining the doors up and down...

"That would certainly be helpful-but you don't think that whoever made this place would have left it here for us do?" she asked. Kathryn sighed then, it was always so much simpler in the movies-when they always conveniently found whatever it was that they were looking for. That's why its the movies and not real life, she told herself as she brushed away more dust to reveal more of the text.

"Right," John said with a hint of venom. "Let's go." After looking around outside the door for no apparent reason, he led them out of the dorm, past the slimy idiot. John resisted the temptation to beat his head as he jogged past. The library wasn't too far from the dorm but it was still quite a distance so John increased his pace slightly, occasionally letting the others catch up.

Larain glanced over her shoulder when she felt someone tap her shoulder.
"Oh, he found this secret passageway. But not like the one they popped out of. He said when you get up to the third floor of the library, follow the marks in the dust," she said quietly so that only Matt could hear. And when she said 'they', one could hear the distaste in the mention of the other teens. "Why, you still interested in this hunt?"

"Yeah, that's true. If only I knew someone who could read this stuff. But, sadly, I don't. Except maybe the ancient history literature teacher," Don said, uncovering more text. "And she's not likely to help."

John set off a a fast pace and Mary followed quickly behind. She was unable to run as fast as him but still managed to keep close enough. They stopped outside the libary and she looked anxiousely at his cold eyes. She stepped foreward and laid her hand on his arm and spoke in a low but authorative voice; "Calm down. She's going to suspect something and watch you if you come in there looking like that. Calm." Her eyes probed his worriedly; hopeing he would listen to her rather than brushing her off angrily.

"I don't have anything better to do anyway." Matt replied lightly as he opened the door for her. "And.." he continued dropping his voice as they entered the Library "I don't want a certain person to get it either."
Matt thought about what Don had told Larain. Secret passages and books that couldn't be found.. it all sounded like storytalk or just a huge joke. Would Jared now be laughing his a-ss of somewhere?

"No and I would not ask her-she would probably have our heads. At this point I just don't feel like I can trust any of our teachers." With that she brushed her hand across more of the door, this time uncovering an image of what looked to her to be a representation of a person of great power-although the image was so old that it was hard to tell. "Okay-that's something new," she muttered. "Think they might have a key for this sort of thing buried somewhere in the library?" she asked.
