Snow? Texas? HA! Hardly, we got a little tiny microscopic amount of snow. The rest was a slushy, icy mess.

Anyway, I've got to post a few things on the main page, then I'll come back and edit this post to start us off. Or, if someone else posts I'll post after them.

Eligh held the body of his father, tears streaming down his face. Nearby, his mother, Tiresa, held his twin siser's skinny frame, which was shaking from sobs. He looked down at his father's cold, pale face with too many emotions to count. He then felt a hand on his shoulder. Kahjal, his teacher and trainer stood with Eligh's new Toru-hi eagle, Norakai.

"I am so sorry, Eligh. I knew your father sense I could walk..." He rubbed the young man's back gently and knelt down so that he could see his face. But we can't stay here forever. Its time to say goodbye." He said this steadily, but his eyes were fogging over as he laid eyes on his life-long friend. Eligh nodded, and then ran his hand down his father's cold, slim cheek, silently bidding his sire farewell. Eliah came over as well, her long hair spilling over her slim shoulders, bordering her small, long, tear stained cheeks.

"Goodbye, father..." She whispered, her eyes filling with more tears. After they and their mother and relatives had all said goodbye, two, young musclular men, very sober, cam and carried away the man's body to be baried. After they left, Tiresa and Elisa left the room, an arm around each other. Eligh stayed back, watching as they carried his father away. He had died last night, shivering with fever, ramaling about some shadow, and as cold as death itself. Eligh's eyes clouded again, and Norakai stepped forward, his talons clicking on the stone underfoot.

Child... I may've only been with you for a week, but- he didn't finish, for Eligh had already buried his head into the soft breast of his winged companion, his shoulders shaking as he cried into the glistening golden brown feathers of Norakai. Oh child... I'm so sorry... the tall eagle said, bowing his head, and wrapping a long, powerful wing halfway around the boy's body.

((No, it's a good start. I'm just bad at jumping into these things.))

Rayen flew with her eagle, Adahy, towards the home of Eligh and Eliah. She had been a friend of the twins for years, and when she heard of their father's death she had come straight over. Both her parents had died about five years ago, so she knew what it was like.

Then her thoughts turned to the way and reason that the twins' father had died. She pondered on the strange death of the Yanua and their eagles. She silently stroked her hand down Adahy's soft feathers. Could that be their fate?

Adahy sensed her thoughts, and his deep voice resonated in her mind. Do not fear, child, he said, Do not worry. She gave him a grateful pat. Thank you, friend, she told him, though she was still not totally satisfied.

Upon reaching the house, Rayen left Adahy outside and went in. She found Eligh crying on the wing of his new eagle. She was not sure whether or not to go in. She didn't want to intrude, but she did want to offer what comfort she could.

"Eligh," she whispered from the doorway after a moment, "I'm so sorry."

Eligh stood and turned to the doorway, and quickly wiped away the many tears on his cheeks when Rayen appeared.

"Oh... H-hello, Rayen..." He said this, his nose stopped up, and his voice catching. "I... He....." He didn't know what to say, and Narokai retracted his wing. "What are you doing here?"

Roanell hearing of Eligh and Eliah's father's death and wanted to see if they were okay flew with her eage Yanel to their house. walking towards the door she heard talking inside and decided someone was already there. As she walked inside she saw Rayern with Eligh and said,"I'm not intruding am I; I'm really sorry Eligh if you need anything I'm here for you"while walking towards him slowly.

Inanco sat on Aras' strong back, watching as the men put yet another Toru-hi into the earth. <i>When will it end?</i> he thought, <i>So much suffering, and we don't know why.</i>
Aras stirred. <i>We should not linger here too long.</i> he said to Inanco. The young man nodded, and the eagle soared up into the sky.
After a few moments of flight, Inanco had Aras land near the boy's home. He dismounted, thanking the eagle. As Aras flew off again, on some errand of his own, Inanco hurried to Eligh's house. He stopped outside the doorway, however, seeing Rayern and Roanell already inside. He decided to wait to talk to Eligh, and started wandering around on the firm soil.

Vana stormed out of her cottage, slamming the thatch door behind her with unusual vehemence. The tiny structure, little more than a lean-to, huddled on the edge of her village, perched as it was on a high outcropping suitable for the great Hanari eagles to land.

Stalking blindly away - anywhere - Vana found herself half sliding, half stepping down the winding path leading into the valley below. Eligh's father had been her responsibility, and she had failed miserably at quenching the fire that ravaged his body, the fever that sent him into delirium. As she'd failed with all the others. Her pale oval face bore a clenched expression. Since Araetha had died - the healer who'd raised Vana - she was the sole healer. And she'd failed.

The path ended abruptly, a landslide marking the place where it had continued. Vana sank onto the cliff edge, fixing her eyes on anything that would distract her from the piercing guilt she felt.

Walking to a small outcropping of rock, Inanco spotted Vana sitting on the edge of a cliff. He hesitated a moment, then moved towards her. When he got within earshot, he called out a greeting so he wouldn't startle her. "Hello...it's Inanco."

Vana turned sharply, her piercing gaze akin to nothing more than a dagger quickly drawn - and sheathed.

"Hello." Her voice was level as she stared bleakly out across the valley. Hostility lingered just underneath the surface. None of them knew the horrible helplessness she felt. And neither did she want them to.

Inanco hesitated again. Vana certainly didn't seem to want company, but he felt she could need it. He sat down on the cliff edge beside her and cast about in his mind for something to say. "It wasn't your fault." he said finally, then rushed on. "There isn't anything you could have done-everything's been tried for the Toru-hi, but it's-it's beyond our skills." His gaze wandered out over the canyon.

Rayen's hand fell from the doorframe as she slowly walked inside. "I just wanted to come and tell you how sorry I am," she replied to his question. She walked up to Eligh and laid her hand on his shoulder. "It's alright if you want to be alone. I understand," she continued, "But I'm here for you, and the rest of your family, if you need anything." She paused a minute before adding, "I know what's it's like."
