Luke went up to the lead wagon and checked on the oxes. They where fine. He took out some things he knew would only weigh down the wagon, and replaced them with things they would need.

Daniel came running back up to Luke, holding a few cloth bags. "I got some food," he said, "and a rifle and bullets." He glanced back towards the wagon. "I guess that's all I need." he said.

"Aye, lad. That will be all you need. Could you help me and go get the girls, please?" Luke asked the young boy.

Abby felt the touch but did not respond. after a few mins she heard Daniel running twards them. she turned to speak to him. " we will be right there daniel. just tell my brother to wait.." she said then turned back to the little girl. "sarah honey, we must go." she went and knelt beside the child. " if you want to tell them goodbye you can." Sarah looked at Abby with big blue eyes and nodded. Sarah walked over closer to her mom and dad. "i'll miss you mommy and daddy." she kissed them both on the cheek and walked back to Abby. "ok i'm ready to go now." Sarah sliped her small hand into Abby's. Abby smiled down at the child and walked twards where Daniel and Luke were.

Daniel smiled at the girl, trying to help her feel a little more comfortable. "I'm Daniel." he said to her.

the little girl gave a faint smile. "i'm sarah. and this is my dolly penny." she smiled big then she huged her doll. Abby watched the two and smiled. "daniel will you get her set in the wagon? i need to speak with luke." Abby walked over to luke.

Luke walked over to his sister and smiled. "How are you, Abby?"

Abby gave him a look that said don't ask me that right after our parents have died. "luke how are we going to take care of these kids? and i mean....how do we know what were doing...and..and how are we ever going to make it west?....maybe we should go back...." Abby said. knowing that her mother and Father would want her and luke to keep going.

Daniel helped Sarah up into the back of the wagon, rearranging some boxes to make a relatively comfortable seat for her.

Sarah thanked him then said. " don't forget about a seat for my dolly." she giggled.


Abby went on. "luke....i don't know anything about rasing kids and......"she put a hand to her forehead. " i'm sorry....this is fustrating..." she frowned

Luke frowned and then put his hands on Abby's shoulders. "I know this is hard for you...it isn't excatly easy for me. But we will make it through. Besides...you'll have so much practice of being a Mother, that when you become one, it will be a piece of cake!"

"Of course." Daniel said to Sarah. He quickly put another blanket over a box and gestured to it rather dramatically.

Luke gave Abby a brief hug, then walked over to the wagon and the two little ruffiens. He smiled at them and asked, "Are ya'll ready?"
