Sinome sat up from where she had fallen asleep by the fire. Cursing incoherintly, she used her staff to rise to her feet and glided over to the counter, where two others were discussing a journey. Summoning the bartender, she ordered breakfast and then focused her attention on the other two.

"Good morning travelers, where are you bound?"

Mikol turned to face this unwanted interruption. The cat was bad enough, but at least it didn't talk. Another person, who just might decide to follow them or reveal their departure to other guests, was insufferable. He quickly apprised the woman. Staff. Usually a bad sign, many Enlightened used them as potential channelers of magic. Confidence. Well enough. You had to have some sort of confidence to wander around River's End. Smooth and nosy. He couldn't stand those two combined. It usually hid a too calculating mind or a troublemaker. Often both. And this person had no pointy objects readily visible. He mistrusted those with hidden weapons much more than those who flagrantly showed them. All in all, this woman could be trouble. And there was no way he was divulging any type of information to her.

"I hear there are some goings-on up north, by the capitol," Mikol divulged with a slight bow. "Being a trading man, I know that demand skyrockets during trouble. As this lady" he motioned to Eledhe, "mentioned she was traveling that direction, I offered to provide an extra sword."

Spinning on his heel, Mikol laid a couple more coins on the counter for the innkeeper and strode out of the door.

Drake looked at the woman who flicked her fingers at him; her eyes told her that she knew his secret.

"If you are done playing with that cat, we can go now."

Drake heard the man say. No! He thought. Not without me, you don't! Drake went towards the woman - Eledhe - who had the pretty blue eyes and purred, deciding to use a trick of his that might scare the woman, and it would reveal him, but at least he wouldn't get left behind. He rubbed his cheek on her hand and as the contact was made, he projected his voice into the womans head.

You wouldn't leave me, would you, dear lady, to miss out on such a venture?

He asked her, still purring.

Eledhe's instant and eloquent reaction was to shove the animal off the broad counter with what was probably a rather painful smack. "And don't you dare do that again," she snapped, leaning over, and hefted her pack over one shoulder to vanish out the door with a flash of black braid.

"What is it about travelers that instantly attracts the most bizarre personages in the immediate vicinity?" she demanded snappishly of Mikol once she was out in the rain-drenched courtyard, made irritable by the weather.

Ducking into the stables provided a temporary respite from the rain. Eledhe squinted to find her horse - or rather, the mount she'd been persuaded to buy that didn't bite, throw her off or balk - and slung a saddle over its back to fumble with buckles.

"I'm just a wonderful person," he replied shrugging. "They all see it and want to be around me." With a laugh, he mounted his bay gelding. Having left the inn sooner, he had managed to saddle the horse and collect all his various items into the small bags hanging alongside. As he waited for Eledhe to finish getting ready, he surveyed the barn. Old, dilapidated, and remarkably persona-free. Mikol breathed a prayer of thanks for that.

"Ready then?" he queried. Getting only a nod and a look in answer, he headed the bay out onto the main "road". "This is more like a goat path," he muttered to himself. Only when they were safely out of town and a full half hour down the road did Mikol begin to relax.

Sighing, Sinome went to pick up the cat. "Humans can be mean sometimes. I don't understand why." She looked intently at the cat and suddenly knew. You're an enlightened aren't you? She thought, hoping the cat could read minds.

It was rather typical, Mikol had to reflect, that whenever you wanted to be somewhere quickly it would rain. He pushed his hair out of his face for the tenth time, and for the tenth time lamented the loss of his cloak. But how was he to know that the river current was so strong? Fortunately, everything else had remained with him. Mud splashed up onto his clothing, but he hardly noticed. His only thought was to get to shelter. The trees the night before had seemed perfectly fine --that is, until it had started drizzling. The drizzle turned to pouring by mid morning, and had only slowed slightly. Mikol scowled into the grey sky.

Time flies when you're having fun. That was a saying Mikol had heard up in Carthaim. Crazy people, though. Everyone knew you had to take their words with a grain of salt. No, he concluded, time never flew. It could only drag. And drag it was doing. It was nearly dark, and he had yet to find an appropriate camp for the night. Wait....Finally! He headed his horse toward an overhanging rock along the path.

"Well, it may not cover much. But at least we can get a fire going." Nearly the first words spoken the entire trip. Although, one could harldly expect them to make small talk like friends. After a few attempts to make a fire (and ignorning some "he's-such-an-idiot" glances from Eledhe) Mikol sat down and attempted to dry himself. Pulling an apple from his pocket, he offered another to Eledhe.

"So, may I ask why you were in River's End?" He queried after eating about half of the apple.

((Honestly, I forgot. :())

Drake snarled at the woman who left, just to act more like a cat, but honestly, he would have done the same thing. He was about to prance on after them, when suddenly he was picked up from behind before yet another female. Geez, how many females can go to one tavern in a day? He thought to himself when he heard someone speaking to him.

You are an Enlightened, aren't you?

Drake looked around, but then realized it was from the girl who was holding him. Ah....well, what made you think so? He asked him, but he was pretty sure she couldn't read his mind - which was good. So, he clawed her arm so she would let go and him and hoped on the table, walking around in circles, purring to himself. He looked up at her and meowed, trying to tell her yes without changing just yet.
