Despite Rosalina's quick attention, Calista still continued to shake uncontrollably. A putrid smell soon filled the air as a small glob of yellowish bile sputtered from her slightly parted lips. Coughing as some of the bile slid back down her throat during her convulsions and lodged itself there, blocking her airway, a harsh rasping sound emitted from her throat as she struggled to breathe. As the precious minutes passed by and Calista's convulsions grew worse, so too did the gurgling as more bile lodged itself in her throat and fluid built up in her lungs. Writhing on the bed as she choked on her own vomit, Calista's blue eyes automatically rolled to the back of her head and her lashes flickered rapidly as her lungs desperately burned for air.

Rosalina frowned in worry. She attempted to turn the woman onto her side knowing that it would let the woman vomit out, but due to Rosalina still being weak from being sick herself, and the movements of Calista she was unable to.

"Dear daughter!" Daniel shouted, his worry growing as a sharp rattling emitted from her throat. His fears only increased as her eyes rolled back and her lashes fluttered as wildly as her convulsions, sensing that she was slowly dying...

Twitching and thrashing about, the low rasping continued as the bile and vomit continually built up in her throat. A few minutes later a low rattling could be heard coming from the woman as she ceased to breathe and her lashes fluttered close. Convulsing about five minutes more, a bluish tint appeared on her skin and that only darkened as the woman went through longer periods without air. Then as quickly as her convulsions began, they ceased and she went completely limp on the bed.

On one of the stops to gather herbs, Gareth felt a sudden coldness seep through his body and his heart was suddenly filled with dread.
"What's wrong?" Darius questioned the mage.
"I don't know," Gareth remarked softly. "I just had a terrible feeling that something is very wrong with Calista."
"Don't worry," Darius replied, trying to be as reassuring as possible. "Rosalina and her father will watch out for her."

Rosalina didn't have time to panic. She grabbed the cloth and wiped the womans mouth, cleaning it out. She then Tilt Calista's head back and started mouth to mouth on the woman. Breathing into her.

Calista did not respond as Rosalina began breathe into her. As the minutes wore on, her heartbeat progressively slowed until it finally ceased.

Standing off to the side, Daniel could only watch helplessly as Rosalina tried to save Calista. She just couldn't die, not yet. Parents were meant to outlive their children, and not the other way around. Moreover, she couldn't leave with Gareth gone, knowing that the mage would be utterly devastated. After all that he had witnessed, Daniel knew that Gareth lived for that woman. "Please," he prayed silently, hoping for a miracle as tears began to sting his eyes. "Come back, Calista. Just come back."

Flying to another patch, Gareth and Darius continued to gather a variety of herbs. Yet even as he worked, Gareth could not shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.

After some time, Rosalina felt for a pulse, on finding none she found the spot on the womans chest and started doing compressions. "Daniel." she callled the mans name. "I will need your aid."

Approaching Rosalina, Daniel just glanced at the woman with worry in his eyes. "What do you need me to do?" he asked her softly, afraid that Calista was lost to him. Just please don't let us be too late, he prayed silently. "Come back to us, daughter," Daniel whispered to Calista as he glanced over his daughter's lifeless form and her chalky pale face.

"Do you have everything?" Darius asked Gareth in his gravelly voice as he had some herbs balanced on his back while Gareth carried another armful.
"I do," Gareth remarked. "Now let us return swiftly," he added. "A sense of foreboding has washed over me. I fear something is terribly wrong."

Daniel merely nodded at Rosalina's question. Tilting Calista's head back he breathed into her in between the intervals of the compressions.

Quickly flying back, Darius and Gareth returned to the home in record time. Walking back into Calista's room, Gareth felt his heart drop at the sight of Rosalina performing compressions while Daniel was administering mouth to mouth. "By heaven what happened?!" he exclaimed as he saw Calista lifeless on the bed, her skin the color of a corpse. Instinctively he rushed to her side, but Darius stopped him after he morphed back into his human form. "Let them work..." he told him calmly.
"I won't sit back and let Calista die. I need to help her!" Gareth shouted, his voice filled with fear.
"No, you will just get in the way. If you love her, stay back and let Rosalina work. She knows what she is doing," Darius added as he attempted to restrain the mage.

Daniel just continued giving Calista mouth to mouth. He would answer the mage's questions later, but the only concern on his mind now was to save his daughter's life.
"I cannot just stand back and do nothing," Gareth told Darius evenly.
"You want to help? Then try talking her. Sometimes hearing the voice of loved one can help a person fight for life."
Nodding at Darius, Gareth slowly moved closer to Calista as Darius released his hold on him.
"Calista, my love, can you hear me?" he spoke gently. "I need you to come back, dear maiden. Please, beloved. You can fight this. Don't let death win," he added softly. "I love you and need you. And so does your father. Don't give up now," he added. He knew it was selfish to want her to live when she was suffering so much, but he couldn't help it, now that he had her in his life, he could not imagine a world without her. Yet despite all his words of encouragement, Rosalina's compressions and Daniel's breathing into her, she remained limp and lifeless on the bed. "Please," Gareth whispered, feeling tears fill his eyes. "Don't go."

After what seemed to be an eternity, a harsh sound emitted from Calista's throat as she drew in a ragged breath and began to cough lightly. "Calista..." Gareth whispered hopefully as Daniel pulled back to examine her and say a silent prayer.

"Understood," Gareth remarked as he moved toward Calista and lifting the woman gently turned her on her side so she was lying at the edge of the bed as he kept one hand on her to keep her balanced on the bed. As soon as the mage set her on her side, Calista began to cough up globs of yellowish bile mixed with vomit that splattered on the floor.
"That's it, love. Let it all out," Gareth whispered as he lightly rubbed her back with one hand as he balanced her with the other.

Walking up to Rosalina, Darius wrapped his arms around her waist before planting a kiss on her temple. "You did a great job, Ro. This woman is alive because of you," he whispered, a gleam of pride in his eyes.

As Rosalina collapsed against him, Darius quickly scooped her in his arms before planting a light kiss on her forehead. "Shh, just relax. I have you," he whispered to her. "You did the best you could, Ro. You are still weak from your own cold. Don't feel guilty about anything. You did well today."

Meanwhile, Calista continued to vomit more bile as Gareth gently rubbed her back. When her retching finally ceased, Gareth gently laid her on her back again before wetting another cloth to wipe her mouth and clean it out as she lay motionless on the bed, her eyes still closed. Sighing sadly as he shook his head, the mage couldn't believe how much bile had been lodged in the woman's throat. Nor was it a surprise that she nearly choked to death. Getting off the bed, Gareth grabbed another cloth and dipped it in water before placing the cloth on Calista's forehead again. "What happened to you love?" Gareth whispered. "What happened to you while I was away?"
