The King's Mercenaries

The Kingdom of Edensvale has existed peacefully behind its strong stone walls for nearly a century. The King is a just and noble leader. Food and clean water are always in plentiful supply, and its people are happy. All in all, Edensvale is a flourishing, peaceful land. But that is all about to change. Occupants of the King's Castle have started to disappear, one by one. And now the Princess herself, the King's own daughter, disappears without a trace. And his majesty has taken action.

Secretly, the King has enlisted the help of a hand-picked assortment of the greatest minds, mercenaries and skills in all of Edensvale, and has given them their mission: Find his daughter, identify the person responsible for her disappearance, and see to it that they are brought to justice.

However, unbeknown to all, there is something waiting just around the corner for the King's Mercenaries, something that could put an end to the world as we know it.

As mentioned in the title, this RPG is invite-only, but anyone is welcome to follow along with the story! The Participants are:

RULES:

All of the protocol rules apply: No godmodding, no innapropriate content, ect.

Also, one rule that I am adding to make this RP a bit easier on everyone involved. Several of us have a tendency to post rather lengthy posts. (You know who you are. ) And so, the rule is:

-If an RPer hasn't posted in a while, slow down the RP pace a bit, and sent the absent RPer a PM to see what's going on.

Also...

-If you know you can't post in a while, please tell someone, and if you can, specify how long. If it's a week or more, please put someone in charge of your character[s]. We will slow down the RP a bit to give you a bit less to read when you get back.

-Unless you really, really really want to play three or more characters, I think it would be nice to keep the number down to two characters per player, to keep things less confusing. PM me if you'd like to play three or more.

-The Mercenaries will be the main group of this RP, so I'm assuming that each of us will play one of them. If not, again, PM me.

YAY!! You soo rock SG!! I've been excited about this ever since you told me what you were thinking! And since you also know I've been working my bio ever since you told me about it, I'll go ahead and post it now.

Name: Dolores

Age: 26

Gender: Female

How Dolores dresses is very dependant on the situation she finds herself in. When a job requires a proper lady, she’ll darn heels and a long trained dress. If she’s around peasants, rags are the way to go.

Weapons: One sword

Personality: Dolores is cynical and sarcastic. These not only reflect her treatment of others, but also her view of the world. People let you down. She forms ties only when absolutely necessary for a job she’s working on then cuts them and disappears. Dolores finds nothing wrong in shifting blame, even when it’s into the undeserving. It’s a cruel world.

History: Their daughter becoming a successful mercenary was probably not what her parents had in mind for Dolores when she was growing up. It wasn’t their fault really. They’d given her a good home, nice things, and all their love. Then they’d died. They weren’t murdered or killed. They just died of natural causes leaving Dolores all alone. She didn’t blame them for dieing either. Becoming a mercenary hadn’t been to spite them. She’d needed jobs in order to make money. What had started out as odd jobs, mostly being an errand runner, soon spiraled into what it is now: a very successful mercenary career. Then again, mercenary is such a harsh word. Dolores preferred “opportunist”. Especially since she just came from a province where being a mercenary was chargeable by death.

The land where she now resided looked a bit more kindly on mercenaries. That was, just as long as they didn’t kill anyone. Of course Dolores would never break the law. So what if some of the people she was hired to “protect” wound up missing? Not her fault they wondered off.

Her cynical view of the world and others broke threw after her naïve state was broken when she first became a mercenary. She’d grown up with a sense that for the most part, the world was mostly good. This view was shattered once she saw what she felt was the inner workings of the world. She traveled the world as a mercenary or at least her small part of it. Most people were only looking out for themselves. No one really cares so why should she? Her single goal in life is to be the best at her job. Maybe this would make her parents proud and maybe it wouldn’t. If she let them down then she’d only be like everyone else world.

Other: She has learned some small magic when it comes to healing. Nothing real fancy. Just enough for her live until she gets some real help.

Yup! You can give them a magic ability, if you want, just try not to make them uber-super-powered. Oh, and if you make up your own race, a basic outline of the race would be nice. Have fun making a character! I'll be doing the same.

Name: Fenrir (but everyone calls him Fen)

Age: 32

Race: Half shapeshifter/half human

Mercenary?: Heck yes.

Appearance: Very tall and lean. He has shaggy brown hair, that's dark brown hair and stubble. His eyes are pale grey. He dresses in practical clothing that is rather bland, though he usually wears at least one brightly colored item (when not working, that is). I'll find a pic if I can.

Weapons: He is a shapeshifter, so he is used to using his teeth and claws. However, he is adequate with bow and arrow, a sword, and daggers.

History:His mother was a shapeshifter and his father a human. Fenrir i was raised by his mother, although his father would come to visit. However, his mother was shot by a hunter (but that's what could happen when you're in deer form). Fenrir was 12 at the time, which is almost an adult for shapshifters. Fenrir was attached to his father, and though he lived with the shapeshifters he would often visit his father. Shapeshifters and humans don't usually get along, so the other shapeshifters tried to discourage him from meeting with his father.
When he was visiting his father, he met a young women with whom he fell in love with. The shapeshifters looked down upon this, to the point where Fenrir left to live soley with humans.
In human civilization, he went to a university to study animal anatomy. This study has helped him immensly in this work as a mercenary.

I'm actually going to need some time to figure out an original character but...and I know I forgot to ask this but what setting is this? Specifically time. Are we talking about fantasy/medieval or modern or futuristic or steampunk?

Like Lor said, it's a medieval/fantasty setting - more or less anything goes. Make up new lands if you'd like, new races. So long as it stays within the realms of feasibility (in fantasy terms ) You're good.

Name: Alitith

Age: 25

Race: Cnidrian

Mercenary: Y

Appearance: Alitith
She dress in dark colours to avoid notice. Mostly dresses or robes

In her changed form, she's different. Her ears are lengthen and become pointy while her eyes and skin turn completely white. Her hands turn into claws, teeth fangs. She also becomes quadrupedal.

Weapons: Two three long knives and her growing telekinetic powers.

Details on Cnidrians: One of the best predators in the known world, the Cnidrians possess two forms. One is a human facade, where they act completely like a human and possess human weaknesses. However, they are closer to the supernatural world and can develop supernatural abilities, as well as having a superior intelligence over humans.

The second form is a paler version of its human self. Despite their inability to see, they use echolocation to perceive their surroundings as well as smell. They have superior speed and agility in exchange for strength. While retaining their intelligence, they are also extremely vicious, capable of ripping their prey apart with their claws and fangs. Losing the ability to walk on two legs, they instead stalk and prowl with four legs, crawling on vertical surfaces as well. However, their pale skin renders them sensitive to light and prolonged exposure can cause dehydration and burns.

History: Alitith was born in her nomadic tribe like all Cnidrians. She helped with the traditional work at the young age and at 14, decided to help the hunters find food. While fighting occurs infrequently, it still occurs, giving Alitith the chance to fight in battles over territory and members, as traditional rules of combat allows the victors to gain possession of the defeated tribe. Around the time she was 18, she participated in a battle where she lost. However, instead of surrendering to the victors, she chose to defy tradition and flee. The elder labeled her as an outsider but she did not seem to care. She resumed her nomadic style, stealing what she needed and fighting for money. While she appears to be indifferent to her separation from the tribe, she is in fact slowly becoming lost.

Lor - Out of curiosity, does your character have an age?

Caunion - Ooh, very cool. I like that you made a new race - very creative. Though just as a caution, try not to delve too too far into the 'supernatural' bit when we're playing. Very, very interesting. (and a spiffy name for the race, too. )

OKAY. Finally, I am going to post one of my characters. *rubs hands together*

Name: Caerin

Age: 26

Race: Human

Mercenary: Yes

Appearance: Shoulder-length wavy brown hair. (Think Ben Barnes' hair, but brown. Lol.) Green eyes, lean build. At about 6'4", he is very tall, but nonetheless graceful.

Weapons: One long katana, two one-sided fighting knives.

History: As a young boy, Caerin left his parents and became the apprentice of a rather eccentric, though caring wizard and was taught martial arts, healing, and most prominently, the art of magic. Caerin's wizard teacher also helped him hone and perfect his inherited skill of mind reading.

Other: Caerin is not very outgoing when it comes to his power, and normally keeps it to himself, using it harmlessly or not using it all, unless the circumstances call for something more. He is a gentle spirit, very thoughtful. Very observant.
