Alrighty, well I'll see where my fingers take it then. :P Right now I just feel like I'm missing quite a bit in my posts due to my personal writing picking up significantly. I just hate to start yet another thread of action in the story when my current one already seems to be lacking.

No pressure Jax - if you decided to develop that concept of yours or not, it's all good. :)

Apologies in advance for the monster post - trying to catch some of the character dynamics btwn Halvarin & Amarwen and Therald & Canimir.

Thanks Hanasian, I'm trying to work in my original plan for Almara and Rie-Zunic's characters. Hopefully (I think it will) it will fit in nicely with the conflict of the RP.

And no worries Elora! Lol

No worries? Are you sure about that? ;)

Ok - so Amarwen's bubble has been thoroughly burst...with yet more revelations (totes your fault, Jax & Hanasian) of scandal at court.

I figured that Amarwen's father will have sent Halvarin off on an errand that would keep him busy for the rest of the day before he delivers them to court in time for dinner. Just a heads up for anyone who might want to start on any dinner scene writing - Amarwen going to be taken ill and not in attendance at dinner (AKA, about ready to go full potato and to hell with the consequences in true "young, dumb and in love" style).

What, of course, I am playing with is how the idea of romantic love as a suitable basis for marriage - particularly amongst the aristocracy - is only a new thing that for aeons was considered dangerous and unwise. Marriage was a business. It held societies and communities together, determined who sat the throne, controlled the armies and wealth and borders and so forth. In that paradigm, marriage was a business transaction. Which is not to say romantic love was not a thing. Just that it was not presumed a pre-requisite or the exclusive reserve of marriage.

So - would it be problematic if I jumped in with Amarwen "acting out" in response to her predicament?

Thanks guys - Jax I like your post! All sorts of ideas bubbling away.

Soon-ish I will answer just why it is Amarwen's father, who clearly loves his only child, is so set on pushing ahead. I like to write from the inside of character's heads, so to speak, and we've yet to hear Therald's thinking on this matter.

It is connected to the deteriorating state of Gondor's politics (big fish eat the littler ones and so it goes).

Me again - how wearisome ;) (passive aggressive much?)

Jax, Hanasian has said we should roll ahead as we wish. So, imma gonna post something about the search underway as its in the here and now and the immediacy should work over the relatively short timespan.

Lol no worries! I prefer people who talk in the OOC threads than those who never say a word!

Sounds good, I'll try and get a post up tomorrow. I just finished 16 pages on my novel... So I'm drained for tonight. :P

Cool - 16 pages!

So I have laid out the rationale of Amarwen's parents. Some background on Edhellond.

As descendants of the King, the traditional rulers of Edhellond have been able senior enough in position and wealthy enough to remove themselves and live comfortably in their own little bubble - free of the cut and thrust of the royal court and politics.

This was all well and good whilst Edhellond married well...however, circumstances have converged both within Edhellond and within Gondor.

Within Edhellond, Amarwen's mother married a man of humble birth (Therald), which meant that traditional alliances were not reaffirmed in marriage and possibly some alliances were lost by her decision (such was the outrage that it required the intercession of the Prince of Dol Amroth so as to spare Edhellond from royal censure). This further isolated Edhellond.

Within Gondor, the Master of Ships is consolidating his position as a viable rival to Eldacar. They both have a claim to the throne and any means by which Castimir can improve his position is something the ambitious usurper will consider. He has two sons, Edhellond happens to have a daughter of royal noble descent...and lacks the military prowess to defend themselves. They are ripe for pressure, particularly if the decision made by Lady Alenna to marry a man of common birth continues to distance Edhellond from the throne. Even if they are not amenable to throwing over to Castimir, they are unlikely to be rigorously defended either by themselves or an ally powerful enough to oppose him.

So there we have it: a convergence of local and national politics and decisions.

Now, what will Rie-Zunic do now that he has a certain scion of Edhellond? I will leave that to you Jax.

Great post Jax...I had to really weigh up what Amarwen's response would be.

In the end, I figured that she was smart enough to figure out that if she tried to fight a trained officer, she'd lose so she might as well save herself from that humiliation. And, possibly, win some regard for not making things more difficult than they needed to be for Rie-Zunic.

She is not a warrior, but she is an aristocrat and has learnt the power of influence and allies...
