Late, as usual, to this party but could not help but notice the content of this RP dovetails nicely with another collaborative tale I am shaping with a certain somebody.

Wondered if I might pitch in?

Was thinking to write characters connected to the Kin - Strife of Gondor: III 1436 onwards tale (Hall of Fire) - notably the father of Amarwen (prominent shipwright and officer of the Guild), and a younger Amarwen (his daughter) who would have been coming of age during this period. If so, I'll shape up a character profile for Amarwen's father.

:pirate:

Her father goes on to be executed with Ornedil when Castamir's forces finally claim Osgiliath, so it would be kinda neat to write up that aspect.

:-D Yes! That would be good! I could develop Halvarin's father in this .... Maybe we can get this going again!

I’m game. I still love the idea and setting and habe a neat little backstory for my two characters I am looking forward to developing.

Might even add a third character when the tournament rolls around. We shall see.

Cool beans! Looking forward to collaborating on this with you all.

I've added my first post, timed for the morning of the tournament, introducing Therald and Amarwen as they prepare to set out.

:)

*thumbs up*

I read the post. I’ll wait for Hanasian (almost reverted to Durian as his name while typing that out) to make a post and then continue.

Yeah, know what you mean Jax. My husband has so many names on so many boards and so many characters, it's difficult to keep them straight. That's why I prefer Captain Crankypants. Rolls right off the tongue, ya know? I recommend it. :sly:

I'll try and get this set up shortly.

Looks like we're off and running!

I've added a shieldmaiden to the character profiles (Helda) too. Didn't realise she was lurking until I wrote Amarwen's interaction at the end.

I've no particular plans for her so if Helda is of use, so be it.

Lol I think Gandolorin recommended that name as well! :P

Indeed we are! Looking forward to it. I won't take too much liberty with the plot unless you give the go ahead Hanasian. I am not sure all the details you have in mind and what not.

I've got Almara under cover, so I will let you feed her any information that you would want her to find out.

The only plan I am aware of is the historical sequence of events. I think if my memory and maths serves me well (highly unlikely but I do enjoy tempting fate so what the hey), we've kicked this off 2 years prior to the death of Valacar and Eldacar's sucession to the throne.

War is simmering, malcontent brewing but held at bay whilst those unhappy with Eldacar's lineage wait for Valacar to appoint another. Castamir being the mostly likely alternative heir. When this doesn't happen, we're thrown into the Kin-Strife civil war proper.

Just speaking for myself, I can see this tale running until the fall and bloody sack of Osgiliath. Castamir will be building his strength, positioning himself as a credible rival to eclipse Eldacar and then to usurp the rule when Valacar does not name him heir. I can also see that amongst Valacar's court there will be a range of people. Those loyal and confident. Those loyal and worried. Those sitting on the fence. Those keeping a low profile.

I can see lots of machinations too - from standard political negotiations (trade and marriages) to more clandestine stuff (assassinations, muck raking and other devious ways to fell an opponent).

And I can see this spilling out into the general populace. Racial tensions will mount. Conflict will break out here and there, some of it by design and some of simply because the rule of Valacar is coming to an uncertain end and the people of Gondor hold very entrenched, polarised views, on who is fit to rule.

For what it's worth, that's my two cents.

Well, as I said in the 1st post...

Hanasian wrote:
The RP starts a couple years before King Valacar's passing and Eldacar's taking up the throne of Gondor. It will be what I call 'loose canon' where the outline of event and major characters are set, but all the people and events unmentioned by Tolkien are for the most part wide open within these boundaries. Characters should be within reason for that area of Middle Earth at the time (no part elf-part maia-part human super warriors with wizard powers, etc.).

It's a tale set in the year 1430, and there is no real set details and am more than happy to have others write in what they want into the tale. That was what I was hoping would develop back when I started this thread. :)

Alrighty, sounds good. I'll try and add a little more content to my posts then and less general "follow along" posts.

Hey Rhinnin's writer. Apologies if I took liberties with your character as I wanted to keep the momentum moving forwards.

Heads up - both Hanasian and I are back at full time (and then some work) after some time off. We've not forgotten this. Ask for your patience so we can keep this rolling forward.
